Curufin's Elvish night-vision will still work, but no sense in taking any chances, and the device has a flashlight beam. He's also aware that in that last, short mission, the only reason any of them are still alive is because the train SCA'd them out of there fast. Not that Curufin wasn't angry because they didn't get to finish the mission, but he was glad not to be dead.
