Getting complimented by the kid was oddly heartwarming, and Rose realized that she hadn’t had anyone do that in a long time. Being in UNIT was really a thankless job unless you were thwarting alien invasions in public.

She shifted so that she was back to back with the girl, leaving some space in between them, and settled in to watch the goings on. Maybe she was being a bit paranoid, but better to be safe than surprised by a stray crab while they were distracted by the pretty lights.

She watched as the lights began to gather together, like a galaxy in miniature. It really was beautiful, whatever was going on. “Dunno. But they seem happy?” It was hard to tell because they’re featureless balls of light, but their song sounded more harmonious and upbeat than it had before.
