The lack of initial response, even a grunt, had surprised her. Or... No, not surprised. He had a lot going on that she had no idea about, after all. She watched him, careful in the way someone with a history of loaded conversations could be. She'd filled her plate by the time he'd stopped... whatever thinking he was doing.
And her eyebrows rose at what he came out with.
