Fëanor weighs his options carefully. It was an experimental process but he managed to refine it enough to be repeatable. This was in Valinor, however, where he had his forge, his tools, access to all materials he might want, and help if he really needed it. Usually, he didn't. It does not mean that it is undoable here. Just a little more difficult.

"It would require good ventilation and a proper heat source. Nothing we can't build on the train. Though, in all fairness, it's best to conduct the whole process on the open air."

Do not, under no circumstances, inhale the heavy metal's fumes. Any heavy metal. It is not healthy.
