He's just impossible. How can he be so relentlessly optimistic when all of that happened to him? It sounds like it must have been on a similar level of awful as the things that happened to Alice, yet she could never imagine himself acting like him. Or even saying the things he's saying. How come he can still act like this, even after all that? She doesn't get it.
She stares at Allen, and if he bothers to cast a glance at her rather than at the sky, he may be able to notice Alice's eyes looking rather watery. No tears fall though - if not just for the fact that the girl immediately moves to wipe her eyes dry with her arm before any of that can happen. You've seen nothing!
