Curufin listened attentively to the given context of the tale, and the situation. The pause certainly did increase the drama of the story. It emphasized the plight of those who were first tricked into the cave and then abandoned.

"What happened to the trapped cultivators?" asked several voices at once, including Curufin's. "Did they get eaten?"
