It's almost as if Inigo struggles to keep looking at Gerome for a moment. It's just hard. He really wants to try and be open, but it doesn't quite feel right yet to look so vulnerable in front of someone important to him. Especially since Gerome is such a big reminder of home - back home, there he most definitely hid everything for years and years and years.
But he does keep looking at Gerome, even as the look in Inigo's eyes gets more troubled.
"I.. I couldn't just leave you there like that." To die, he thinks. That's exactly the thought that makes it so hard to look at Gerome in the first place, to not think back on the way his face looked back there, so pale and weak. "I mean.. If the tables had been turned and it would have happened to me, I know you wouldn't have abandoned me either."
