Her eyes opened, but barely. Enough for a sort of acknowledgement in what she said: they were too aware that a good percentage of those they served with didn't make it to old age.

"Had I gone with my other career path," She finally said. "Probably wouldn't feel as stiff as I do in the morning."

Though, if she had gone with a career path in university, she wondered what else she would give up besides burns and scar tissue. Likely she'd have never met Johnny if such was the case; the tournament was integral for that.

And if she didn't meet Johnny, then Cassie would've probably never been born. Or perhaps..maybe she would've? Sonya was never against the idea of marriage or having children, but prior to having Cassie, she acknowledged that having either wouldn't have been practical.

And considering how much of Cassie's childhood she had to miss out on, the suspicion wasn't wrong.
