'If she had to..' Wasn't that the point? He was saying she didn't have to. She didn't have to do it on her own if she didn't want. He was offering to make it easier on her.

He was so close to objecting to her hesitant response. But it was in his nature to honor the wishes of others, to let the proud keep their dignity and fight their own battles by themselves. It was how the warriors did it. It was what he was used to doing. Watching on the sidelines, waiting to see if he was even needed, if he could even be of any help.

Maybe that's all he wanted and where was the honor in that? Do want to be needed, to want to help because he could not because it was needed. That was selfish. He wasn't the only strong warrior here. And even if Madoka wasn't one of the physically strong people here she still had her courage and dignity to uphold on her own. She was strong in her own way. He had to let that be.

He backed away and gave her a nod. "You can. You can do it. Go on."

He wasn't great at encouragement. But he hoped she got the message: he believed in her.
