It's always when it's too late that one learns they're not on the same page as another. There's the creeping suspicion, but even that's too late, especially in this case. Tidus had a vague idea previous that involved landing at some point, and then maybe the both of them staying airborne. And perhaps Tidus still counts as 'airbone' when he's getting thrown, but that doesn't erase the quick thought of 'waithe'sgoingtothrowme?' that's already answered by the act. Of being thrown.
At least Tidus had a spell to go, easier to conjure than the last that'll give him protection from the literal storm he's entering, though it does nothing for the visibility around him. But Tidus already figured he was going in blind, and casts off the spell in the same manner--blind and around him, hoping it'll find its targets (and not Piccolo).
And they do some, if not everyone--golden rings blurring as time slows for the ice elementals caught in the slowga, and with it, their control over the storm. It slows, thinning out the storm and making visibility clearer--at least for a guy like Piccolo, to hopefully find the targets with his easier manoeuvrability.
