He grinned and pointed at him in agreement. "Yeah, like punching things. I can't do that. So it's helpful for me to know people who can handle that kind of thing, which I do, or, people who can carry heavy things I can't."

It might sound like he made friends by what they could do for each other, and that wouldn't be a terribly wrong perception, but fortunately it usually turned into actual friendship. He was just a bit socially awkward.
