It sounded as though there was a whole culture of Void ships that the Voidtrecker Express's current crew wouldn't have any knowledge of or access to, being a rogue vessel. Hey, wait? He kept looking up at the tree canopy. From the looks of the intermittent damage, it did seem as though the Voidflash had periodically bounced back up above the treetops, as though the pilot was still partially in control and trying to keep the craft from crashing.
