Here, everyone is the same shades of dirt most Terrans come in. He should be noticed.
"Maybe if we go look at the livestock we'll figure out what he was sayin', too-" though as he's talking, he sees a chicken peck at a bug on the ground. Over and over. And over. He taps Madoka's arm with the back of his knuckles to get her to look. The bug is just merrily moving along as if there isn't a chicken trying to eat it (because there's not). Which makes him realize the extent to which their eyes are playing tricks on them.
