Multiple versions of people is a little weirder, but it follows from multiple universes. But the whole dead-not-dead clone who's tethered to a train, with a soul in a lantern - it's believable, but it's not something that sits well with Steve at all. It sounds a lot like captivity trussed up to look like salvation.
