Which, at least Xehanort doesn't seem to be slowed down by his explanation and getting to work, but did this explanation have to include licking batteries? An example that stutters Tidus's brain for a couple of seconds - but good thing, that there's some doing going on to pay attention to!

Granted, a doing that makes as much sense as everything else to Tidus, when Xehanort stretches out his hand, poof, more dark shadows, then takes it back like he got slapped by a battery who heard what he wants to do with it.

You know what? Tidus doesn't get it. But he hears the confirmation of 'a person', and that's all he needs to know.

"You try it," he starts in regards to the belt, about to say more--when there's a loud thud, and big boy has come to join them, roaring with flames spewing from its mouth.

Tidus panics on the spot for a second, until- "Tie tie tie!" -he eloquently instructs Xehanort while dashing towards the fiend, his blade appearing in hand with a golden sheen. The fiend spits out a fireball towards the incoming Tidus, smashing into the ground, and making more of it disappear than it should, with pieces of the road flaking off into the air. But Tidus is at least quick on his feet, coming in with a slash and moving out as a claw swings at where he was.

But also, it's usually good to get moving once one monster finds you - especially if it's an illusionary monster. They like to summon friends.
