Xehanort is a big fan of surviving encounters more than making bold dramatic last stands, and while most people even on the train might well think their best shot is battling that thing to the death, he's certain they're best off.. NOT doing that, even with the thing screaming in pain. Because it already got Tidus once.
And there goes the sword. Just like it had appeared. And on the bright side, his idea seems to be a good one! Which means he's ready to go as soon as Tidus is with one tiny exception. Haste spells are nice on many levels! And while Xehanort doesn't know that one, he does know Cure! A little haste goes a long way in reducing cast times, and as the swordsman scrambles away from ...whatever that thing is, Xehanort puts his One Healing Spell to use, to hopefully dull some of that pain and damage before heading AWAY from the big ugly scary thing at top speed.
Which isn't actually that slow, he's not doing bad for a nerd who prefers to be in a lab! Downside: there's really not a lot of places to go with the world literally falling apart, and his burden of unconscious actual person means he has to go around things he'd rather go up and over. Further downside: they're going to run out of street REALLY fast.
It might explain the sudden detour he takes between crumbling buildings, skidding a bit on the rubble-strewn ground. "This way!" Why this way? The alley is just a bit narrower than that monstrosity!
someone's gonna get eaten by a fiend!
