Unfortunately Lan Wangji doesn't have anything that would be useful for the air so he has decided to stay on the ground. Sword in hand he attacks the lower birds that have been knocked in his direction. If he can keep them from getting back into the air then he will do so. He wants to make sure the airship has less to deal with. So Bichen in hand, he takes on as many of the birds as he can get to.
