"Of course," she says solemnly, "Neran yet sleeps. But tonight is our night of dedication!" She claps her hands together briskly, then gestures for the two men to follow her. As she leads them through the main room of the residence and up a set of stairs, she keeps talking. "Tonight is the night we commit to her, and to each other; the night to tell the dark that we will persevere despite its grasping claws."

She takes them down a hallway to a door that she opens with a whirl of cold air. Beyond is a cozy little balcony with an incredible view of the night sky and the glimmering sors drifting down into the city.

"Tonight is a night to be brave," she finishes, winking at Koumyou and giving Devero a hearty slap on the back to send him through. "Enjoy. Let me know if you need anything."

The door closes again behind them after Devero's guided Koumyou through. The balcony is a little pocket of stillness, the kind tucked inside a sheltering nook in the building rather than projecting out into the elements. Though the falling sors is tossed into swirls and drifts by the piercingly cold wind that blows down into the grotto from the above, very little of that cold turbulence penetrates the alcove.

The cold is further kept at bay by the heaps of furs and heavy quilts piled on the low bench against the wall on one side, with a table only slightly higher set before it. Beneath the table is a brazier full of fresh heatstones, with heavy canvas hanging down from the sides not facing the bench, to trap and direct the heat; on top of the table is a platter of chewy Osigan delicacies and a jug with matching cups, presumably of the fiery whisky the natives share so freely.

Devero, still smiling, indicates that Koumyou should have a seat on the bench. He'll find the blankets are warm, and the leg space beneath the table even warmer.
