After all, she had been so young back when the house fire happened. Sometimes it's easy to forget just how young she was back then, considering how she spent the next ten years after that in an only half-aware state the entire time.

"But at least I would have had a moment to say goodbye to them." Something about Alice shifts a little. It's not an entirely comfortable topic to talk about, but something about the mood hanging around them right now makes her feel like she ought to, if not just to preserve the memory of her family. "Even if it was just saying goodbye to their closed caskets, since people said that they had been burned so badly due to the fire that they were completely unrecognizable."

So looking at their bodies would only have made things worse.
