If all life died on his planet, they would still exist in the Underworld in a sense, but he would like to avoid that. His worries have been ever present in his mind since he realized he was separated from his world, trapped. He's worried about Zagreus, his family, the Underworld in general, the mortals, and just... Life. Past experience taught him that the responsibility is ultimately his because he can't trust that the other gods will help him, help their world.
