"Hm." That's his only immediate response. He focuses on navigating the crowd, until they reach the slightly less crowded square. The view is partially obscured from here, which probably explains why it's not packed, but there's still plenty of open sky visible to be filled with the lights.
He's not really watching the fireworks just now, though. His eyes are turned to the sky, but they're distant and unseeing.
"Where I come from," he says finally, "there's no just thing as useless people. No one has to do anything to receive basic care from our government. Food, shelter, health care, security-- these are all basic human rights."
