Perhaps Zagreus might recall the times when Thanatos said that he'd destroy his own heart to protect the one he loved, to not trap him. Perhaps Zagreus will recall Thanatos suggesting that Zagreus live for the both of them, free because he cared too much about Zagreus to ask him to come back home with him. Perhaps Zagreus will realize that Thanatos has been talking about the same person in both cases this whole time, the very person he's with right now.
Thanatos gives a small, nervous laugh. "I'm not holding onto you just because I want to. I don't want to accidentally shift away again." He looks up at Zagreus, flushed with life and the red blood flowing through his veins. He can feel the warmth radiating off him, comforting but not burning or blinding in the same way Helios's chariot is. Thanatos can't help but do what Zagreus did moments earlier. His golden eyes flick down to his lips before he catches himself and trains his gaze towards Zagreus's eyes.
Still, his voice is soft, fragile as he asks the question, "So... What... do we do now?"
Because there are so many different ways to answer that, and Thanatos doesn't know which one Zagreus will give him.
