"To a certain degree," Leia said with a nod. "I can normally pick up on the surface emotions of those around me, though in a situation like this- with so many people around- it all tends to blend together into more of a sense of the general mood, unless I actively try to sense what a certain individual is feeling. It's rather like having to focus to be able to pick out a specific conversation to listen to in a noisy room."

She hadn't missed the frown, however. "If it makes you uncomfortable though, I can shield myself and block it out fairly easily." Some people weren't comfortable with mental or emotional contact, even a passive sort, which was quite understandable. And was one reason Leia didn't tend to advertise her abilities in that area.
