Roland is trying his best to poke holes at this plan, but honestly? Until he can see it for himself, there's no reason not to try. It sounds ridiculous, but no plan ever came to fruition because of naysayers who played it too cautiously.

That and to both Tidus and Inigo's point...there was just so much path to clear out. They're fit from all the missions in routine succession every two weeks, but that didn't mean they could lift massive rock and broken infrastructure with their own two hands.
