The higgledies are already on the move, capable of more than just protection. They waddle themselves over to Tidus to bring up a ring of healing for him to step into, squeaking for his attention, and Tidus hears and moves to them. Fortunately, their voidblob foe isn't one for regenerating, but there is a wiggling still in some of its bits - some last curdles of life that seem impossible, and yet.

But shots ring out, blasts coming from Tidus - and his Spiran pistol back out, putting out a pittance next to the onslaught that Roland just provided. Perhaps unnecessary, perhaps the movements being twitches, the last of an imminent death, but why take the risk. There's a glowing, a healing taking place along his lower leg, the higgledies having come in front of Tidus to act as a shield for him, their little weapons in hand.
