Because it's hope being extended to her. And whereas someone as cynical as Alice could easily bat that away if it was coming from someone else, like all the people who constantly lied to her back home, it's harder here. Because Emporio - he's always been nothing but kind and honest with her, as far as she's seen. He's just a kid, coming from circumstances way beyond what any kid should be dealing with.

He wouldn't tell her this if he didn't mean it.

And yet, at the same time, Alice can feel everything twisting up inside of her chest all over again. With worry. With fear.

Hope is so easy to accept, but that just makes it hurt more in the end if it turns out to be false. ]


Who knows if they could do such a thing though? [ It's one thing to promise someone something, and another thing entirely to actually do it. ]

.. and why would they do such a thing for us in the first place?

[ Of course Alice is naturally distrustful of any organisation. She's distrustful of anything and anyone outside of the small circle of trusted people she lets near.

Trusting some organisation to somehow fix everything for them.. that's hard, if not outright impossible. ]
