Jake flashes her a little smile. "I know you want to get out there and fight off the bad things right now. But they have all the advantages---they see better in the dark, they don't sleep like humans do. It's better if we give it our best when we can definitely win."

Not that winning's ever guaranteed....but he doesn't want to scare her with what happens if they lose. She knows, of course.
