The more he listens, the more he's convinced that he's missed something. But the words make enough sense on their own that he doesn't press further for now.

Instead, he tightens his arm around Esteban and leans on him a little more.

"...you're right. I've doubted it for a long time, but...I made my choice. And I'm not done fighting for it."

That probably merits a little explanation. "Remember that strange false memory world where I gained the electricity powers? That's not all that happened there. I met...a version of myself from another timeline who'd never boarded the train. He mocked me the way I would've mocked someone else back then, told me I'd gone soft with making friends. Swore I'd regret it when they all left me with nothing. And then...right after we boarded again they all started leaving, one platform after the next. By the time I met you, they were almost all gone."

He sighs deeply, still holding on. Taking a moment to search for words. "But...he was wrong. I wasn't left with nothing, right? Memories and experiences...and I'm not done fighting for them. I can...finally see that the high price was worth it. So. Thank you."
