Onward: Purple
The second night of their trek is interrupted by the shaking of the ground. It only lasts a few moments and all the tunnels hold, but it is enough to be a frightening experience.
And it seems to have agitated the monsters. A wave of crabs attack not long after the shaking has stopped, emerging from the rocks around them.
They are close to one of the sandbanks and as they emerge, for a moment out of the caves they will find darkened skies and choppy seas. There is a feeling of a storm approaching. It is cooler then it has been.
But that is the least of their problems. As they cross the sandbank, wading in the water a giant squid attacks. Tentacles reaching out of the sea, to wrap around limbs and pull the voidtreckers and those they are escorting off the sandbank and into the ocean depths.
The tentacles at least seem to withdraw if damaged enough, hopefully they can be fought off before anyone drowns.

Of course it is. It’s Lembas bread. Joscelin would have laughed but now isn’t the time. He scarfs it down and is surprised to discover that he now feels pleasantly full.
“I’ve been better,” he says around the mouthful. It’s nice to actually get to chew his food again. “Back before I was human. Now I’m rather more likely to die if I’m squished by falling rocks in an earthquake. This stuff isn’t bad, by the way.”

"There are many humans amongst us," Glorfindel pointed out. "Some with no special powers or magic. They use training to make up for that. Give yourself time. You were in your other state for over 600 years, you've been human for only a handful."

“Yes yes, I know all that. Doesn’t mean I haven’t earned the right to complain about my sudden mortality, you see.”
He nibbles on the final bit.
“Though 680 years is not a long time to an elf, or even a vampire, it’s an eternity for a human. It’s rather strange to have both sets of memories, and to have been both human and not in such a lifetime. Now I’m truly a child again, and not just a monster that looks like one. It does take some getting used to.”

"You got a do-over," said the King of Do-Overs. "As someone whose done that, please, take your time, and let me know if I can be of any assistance?" He knew it took some time for him to get used to being alive again. Different circumstances, entirely, but that period of having to adjust to a life that you were not used to was quite similar.
