Onward: Purple

The second night of their trek is interrupted by the shaking of the ground. It only lasts a few moments and all the tunnels hold, but it is enough to be a frightening experience.

And it seems to have agitated the monsters. A wave of crabs attack not long after the shaking has stopped, emerging from the rocks around them.

They are close to one of the sandbanks and as they emerge, for a moment out of the caves they will find darkened skies and choppy seas. There is a feeling of a storm approaching. It is cooler then it has been.

But that is the least of their problems. As they cross the sandbank, wading in the water a giant squid attacks. Tentacles reaching out of the sea, to wrap around limbs and pull the voidtreckers and those they are escorting off the sandbank and into the ocean depths.

The tentacles at least seem to withdraw if damaged enough, hopefully they can be fought off before anyone drowns.

There is a tiny child with a long and wicked-looking dagger, brandishing it expertly as he enters the melee. He really shouldn’t be doing hand to hand comment against the fucking Kraken, but he’s working with what he has.

He notices that the new redhead is still using electricity even though they’re in the water, and he can’t help but shout at him.

“Oi! Watch it with that thing or you’ll fry us all!”

"You mean I'll fry you, small fry!" The Turk responded with a half laugh, half growl as he whacked on the tentacle some more. Surprisingly though, he managed to turn off the electricity before the last couple of blows hit. Was it because there was a kid nearby? Probably, but don't call Reno out on it. It would ruin his bad reputation.

“Yes,” Joss calls out, very narrowly avoiding being taken out by a flailing appendage (he’s too damned slow now!). He stabs at it in retaliations. “I did mean that. I daresay that I’d be mourned far more deeply than you.”

The banter is harder now that he’s mortal. It takes far more focus to not die than it used to.

"That's harsh, yo!" But Reno still sounded amused despite his words. And the hard-fought battle. "I have adoring fans, too, you know!"

No he doesn't. Especially not here on the train. But not really anywhere else either.

Joscelin grins, flipping his dagger expertly in one hand.

“Not harsh at all! I’ve already died once, you see,” he tells the newcomer. “Everyone was awfully cut up about it. It was a proper tragedy, you see. What have you got to offer?”

Reno paused briefly at hearing those words but resumed fighting before a tentacle could smash into him. It was odd to hear death talked about so frivolously even when he knew of revival magic that could do such a thing. It was still rare and had limitations. And death was still death at the end of the day.

He shook his head. "I guess you win this round, kid. Everyone I know is back home."
