Onward: Purple
The second night of their trek is interrupted by the shaking of the ground. It only lasts a few moments and all the tunnels hold, but it is enough to be a frightening experience.
And it seems to have agitated the monsters. A wave of crabs attack not long after the shaking has stopped, emerging from the rocks around them.
They are close to one of the sandbanks and as they emerge, for a moment out of the caves they will find darkened skies and choppy seas. There is a feeling of a storm approaching. It is cooler then it has been.
But that is the least of their problems. As they cross the sandbank, wading in the water a giant squid attacks. Tentacles reaching out of the sea, to wrap around limbs and pull the voidtreckers and those they are escorting off the sandbank and into the ocean depths.
The tentacles at least seem to withdraw if damaged enough, hopefully they can be fought off before anyone drowns.

It didn't last long, however, and Reno was deftly dodging out of the way of the large tentacle a second later. He retaliated with a backhanded blow to it but it didn't feel nearly as effective. (Whether that was true or not was another story altogether.) Reno missed the extra kick from his electric attacks.
"...this sucks, yo." He muttered lamely.

"Tentacles are always bad to fight! They are very wriggly!"
He remembered the ones in the cultist hide out, they had been bad indeed.
He swiped out at another tentacle but then yelped as one wrapped around his ankle and he was dragged into the air.

Reno cursed quietly under his breath as he watched the kid go flying into the air. For a split second Reno wished he had stolen a knife to bring with him but usually his Electro-Mag Rod was weapon enough for him. But now he wished he had something to cut with.
He didn't waste any more time though and leapt up into the air. He landed agilely on the tentacle and hung on precariously as it flailed about. "Eh, sorry kid! This might sting a bit!" he called a second before smashing his baton into the tentacle and releasing a burst of electricity through it. He didn't know what else to do except maybe bash it to pulp, if he even could with all this flailing.

But then the man was there and it did hurt. He yelped again and closed his eyes in pain as electricity rippled down the tentacle.
He wasn't mad though, the man was trying to help him. He just hoped he could make the tentacle let him go!

Shimmying down the tentacle a bit like an awkward inch worm with his arms wrapped around the tentacle, Reno made his way to Romeo. "Plan B," the Turk said but didn't move for another moment. He had no Plan B.
Without a better idea, Reno put away his baton and used both hands to try and unwrap the tendril from Romeo's ankle. The thing was hella strong for just being a damn noodle! But he dug his nails into the softer underside, ripped a few suckers almost completely off in his attempt to get traction, and was rewarded by the tentacle releasing its prey in surprise and pain. It was just for a moment but it was all Reno needed. He got Romeo's ankle free and then dropped like a ton of bricks as the tentacle flung them downward with a flick of it's mass.
The Turk managed to somehow grab Romeo and flip them mid air like a cat, except Reno didn't land on his feet. He thudded onto the sandy ground on his back and all the air was knocked out of him as Romeo landed on top of him.

Plan B was trying to rip the tentacle off him and it worked! But then they were falling, Romeo tried to slow himself but he wasn't going to let the other man fall and the weight of him was too much for Romeo so they both plummeted.
"Sorry sir..." Romeo rolled to the side, to free the man below him, feeling bad that he had gotten hurt because of him. He opened his eyes, to check the man was alright.

But there wasn't time for that. Reno rolled over to his side and slowly clambered to his feet. He was just standing when another tentacle lashed around and Reno just barely leaned back out of the way, almost falling backwards onto his bottom again. He flailed precariously for a second and then righted himself.
"Damn," he muttered and then glanced at Romeo. "This is hardly working. Let's get out of here. Most of the people should be past by now."
He hoped. Short of jumping into the water and fighting the thing down below, or maybe cutting off all its tentacles, they probably weren't going to win this fight. Better to simply run past it and continue onward.

"Let's run really fast!"

Reno waited for the kid to make a run for it, holding back until Romeo had a good head start. Then he turned to look at the tentacles one last time and gauge their movements. He didn't want them to go after the fleeing prey.
When it looked like one might be ready to grab Romeo or maybe slam onto him, Reno jumped high into the air. When he slammed back down into the ground he let out a large area of effect strike of lightning. Romeo should have been too far to be hit by it by then, but the tentacles weren't so lucky. Reno doubted it did much damage but the limbs jerked back in reaction and the Turk used the movement to dash away.

His eyes glanced back at the flash of lightning and he grinned to see Reno running his way. "Quick sir!"
no subject
"Uh, good job, kid." That was how you talked to kids, right. Sure, let's go with that.
no subject
"Thank you sir! You did good too! You got that monster good!"
