Onward: Red

They are in the vortex for what seems like forever but is perhaps not that much time at all. They do not hunger, they are tired enough that it feels like they have been struggling against the chaos of the sea for a few hours yet how much time they have been flying in truth, is unknowable.

They emerge, pushing up out of the vortex. There were four rockpools and now, as they land on a vast plain they will find they have all arrived at the same destination.

The sky is black, pin pricked with stars and in the distance, on the horizon there is a glowing white light. The light is bright, bouncing off the ripples of water and giving them light to see.

For it is water they stand on, a vast ocean, inky black in the darkness. They stand on it with ease and yet, if they wish, they can dive down into it. The water is clear and yet they will find no plants or fish.

Monsters though, they will find a plenty. As the voidtreckers arrive, their footsteps rippling on the sea, they are joined by creatures. Giant crabs, shark head beasts, water snakes. They stand between the voidtreckers and the light on the horizon.

Somewhere in this sea it seems there is a giant squid, as tentacles reach out of the water to grab the ankles of the void warriors and pull them down to the inky depths.

The voidtreckers feel a pull towards the light, yet the horizon seems endlessly far away, getting no closer as they fight their way towards it.

She frowned as she saw that not even this woman could get through the snakes tough skin with her spear. Maybe the underside was softer. But those teeth were big.

"If you do be distracting, I can be trying to be stabbing it."

She might not know the woman, but she has faith in her ability to fight and keep herself alive. She just seems competent.

Ah, playing bait. Not her favorite role, but one she’d learned to play well.

“Good plan.” She reversed her grip on one of her batons so it laid flat along her forearm and took a breath. She had her own plan to follow for the distraction, though every fiber of her being screamed that it was a stupid idea. “Let’s go.”

The snake reared up to strike again but Rose moved before it could. She brought her arm up as if to block and instead shoved her forearm into the snake’s open mouth. As she’d hoped, her baton folded the fangs back against the roof of the snake’s mouth, though it didn’t save her from the rest of its teeth. She hissed in pain but wrapped her other arm around its head, basically hugging its jaws shut on her arm.

“Let’s not dawdle, kid.” She could already feel it trying to shake her off.

She has no idea who this woman was but she was incredibly skilled and ridiculously brave. "Not dawdling!"

She had maybe gotten a little distracted at Rose throwing her arm inside a monster snakes mouth. But she is back on track now. She darted underneath it, crouching low and skidding slightly on the water. Her knife went upwards, to the bottom of the creatures jaw.

She is hoping her dagger isn't long enough to stab the woman's arm, but she angles her dag in towards the rest of the snake, just in case. The moment she felt purchase she pulled the dagger, hoping to slice.
