Down the Staircase: Backdated to Day Seven

Those who were investigating the sigil or fighting crabs nearby would be aware of the ground rumbling as a spiral staircase opened into the dark sand below.

Of course it is less a staircase at the bottom of the ocean and more a terrifying water helter-skelter downwards through the dark.

But they land in an underground cave. It is dark, and ankle deep in water. In the centre there is a white marble plinth, with a large empty shell on top. The walls of the cave are dark and grimy but with the aid of the torches in their SCA's and some investigating will find a hint of colours underneath the sand and seaweed on the walls.

Between day seven and day ten

The crabs are still attacking. It is not a never ending siege but it pays to be vigilant as every so often crabs arrive to launch an attack on the sleeping citizens. Luckily they don't seem to be able to get into the underground chamber, perhaps being too large or unwilling to enter through the twisting passage.

Inside the cave the water is slowly rising, by day ten of the month of Fiddlesticks it reaches the average voidtrecker's chest.

The plinth is tall, above the voidtreckers' heads and so hasn't been submerged yet.

Assuming they have begun to clear the sand and seaweed off the walls of the cave a picture begins to emerge. Simple drawings, very similar to those on the tablets in the market place.

Day Ten

Light from the sky, an island. People gathered around a fire. Beacon. Symbols are helpfully translated for them. A plinth. No, two plinths with shells on them filled with light.

All very useful. If only they had any way to share their ideas with the others.

Which is when their SCA's glow and a holographic screen appears.

Meanwhile on the train...

By day ten the storm hits with a vengeance. Waves are high, rain falls practically sideways. The train holds out well, staying in place and upright through the battering seas. Going out to dive is nerve wracking and there might be some cases of seasickness in those remaining on the train.

It is all in all not a great sea faring experience.

"Well, it's pretty rough, right? Get bad enough, and even hardened sailors can get sick, they say."

He grins a little at the look on his face. "I can add some honey, maybe?"

"Rough is an understatement." Though in fairness he hadn't actually spent much time on the sea to gain his sea legs. This situation has taught him that he would never be a sailor. Not in a million years.

"Honey? Well... I suppose it couldn't make it taste much worse?" He hoped.

"It should cut some of the spice of the ginger, anyway. Gimme a sec."

Kaito hurries back to the kitchen, returning with the honey pot.

Gladio was a little concerned that the sweetness would make the ginger taste more pronounced, but he was willing to give it a try.

When Kaito returned with the pot of honey, Gladio reached for it and spooned a little into his drink and stirred it around until the honey had melted. "... You sure this is safe?" He asked with a laugh, before he had an answer though he'd lifted the cup to take a drink. It... wasn't as bad. But he could still taste the ginger.

"Unless you're one of the Spider-kids, apparently." He says cheerfully. "Or allergic to honey or ginger, I guess?"

"One of the what?" Gladio wasn't sure he'd heard of that term before and it took him by surprise. "I'm not allergic to anything as far as I know. But this is sickly sweet. But it's alright..." He gave Kaito a grateful smile. "Thanks for helping. Hopefully this'll ease my stomach some."

"The Spider-kids - y'know, Peter and Gwen. That's what Tony-san calls em, anyway!"

He shrugs with a smile. "Least I can do!"

"I'm with you now." He'd not really met Gwen, but he'd met Peter once and a few times in passing.

"It's a bit help and I appreciate it." Gladio probably should have thought of it himself, and he might have if he hadn't been feeling so sorry for himself.

"'s cool." Kaito grins at him.

"If you need more, I can leave the thermos here, and go make some more."

Gladio smiled gratefully. "The thermos should be enough. But thanks, kiddo. You've been a huge help." But he didn't want Kaito to go to any more trouble than he already had.

"Doing my best! Just yell if you need more, kay?"

"You bet." He sipped at his drink again and this time tried not to pull a face. It was, despite the taste, working some. His stomach didn't feel as sickly so he kept on sipping. "I'll let you know, Kaito."

and wrap?

"See ya around, Gladio-san!"

He grins and waves, headed back to the kitchen to make more for the other unlucky souls.
callmegladio: (Default)

I think so!

"I'll see you, Kaito. And thanks again." He gave a grin as he waved the younger man off.
