Final: Red

Again time seems to blur, the waves of monsters seem endless, the light out of reach until suddenly they are there. At the light that until then had been on the horizon.

Four columns of white marble stretch upwards into the sky, connected by a marble floor. Inside, floating in the air there are birdcages. Each one is filled with light, a light that sometimes shifts, looking almost like a person. A flick of hair, a scaled tail. But for the most part the light is formless. There is music, a mournful tune that ebbs and wanes. Wordless, a melody that isn't quite there.

But it may be the voidtreckers are more distracted by the form in the centre of the marble. A huge creature, somewhat resembling a jellyfish floats. Tendrils reach out to brush over the birdcages, making the song go sharp and jagged, dimming the lights for a moment.

Inside the mass they will see another light, faint but pulsing, struggling. Behind the creature there is an empty plinth. The creature shifts, blue energy rippling across the tendrils as it seems to sense the voidtreckers.

A skittering behind them will let the void warriors know they have more company. Crabs behind them, this beast in front, it is time to fight.

Even if part way through they might get a little distracted

"Could be the lost villagers." She wasn't sure; most of her knowledge about magic or spirituality came from punching it in the face until it submitted to her. "Point is, that monster's hurting them, and I'm betting it's not on our side. Can you break the cages?"

IGNORE THE ATTACK THE COLUMN--new info revealed that wasn't the plan all along

[[due to now understanding the layout of the place better there is no reason to attack the columns. therefore, 47 just attacked somewhere near a cage and yelled out "we need to take out those cages" therefore the real title should be more like "DESTROY THE CAGES"--he just wants to deny the damn jellyfish it's food, goshdarn!!]

"With pleasure," he said in French though with the SCAs on it translated no problem, but it sounded smoother somehow in his deep voice with that particular language of choice. He aimed down the sights of his rifle again and targeted the cage directly this time. He was not going to hit the light if he could help it. He fired the shot and hit the cage.

He hit the cage and it rocked, the door sprang open. The light flew out and rushed towards 47, spinning around his head, the song one of elation.

It settled after a moment, the tune peaceful as it bobbed near his shoulder.

Without a gun of her own, Light didn't want to risk aiming at the cages with something as imprecise as blasting magic. Instead, she swiveled until she was guarding 47's back, and concentrated on keeping the area clear.

And, briefly, making another call on her SCA.

Here was a Han Solo moment of "just what I always wanted..." minus the snarky comment from 47. He glanced at his new friend from the corner of his eye but the noise it made was a happy one that even 47 could recognize and it didn't appear hostile. He ignored it.

While Lightning was at his back he took aim at yet another cage. While she made her call, he kept his attention on the monsters about the room to keep them away. Then went back to shooting cages whenever she finished up.

probably assume they joined the main thread soon after this?

"You've got friends," she commented, watching another light bob past her eyes on its circuit around 47 and, by grace of her standing behind him, her.

And then went back to sending crabs flying. Turned out air magic was excellent for sending small clusters of crabs sailing away towards the section of Red team who'd stayed to keep them under control.

yes

"Now if I could only teach them one trick: stay out of my line of sight while I try to free their fellows," the hitman commented dryly. They might have made a cute ensemble around him but 47 would have preferred it if they quietly stood behind him instead of circling around his head.

He shook his head, shrugged casually at Lightning, and went back to shooting.
