Energy/Spell Training Session, OTA
Glorfindel set out targets along a part of the beach away from the train (and facing away from the train, just in case). There were some things that were not practical to practice inside a small enclosed place, with squishy, easily damageable fellow passengers in it.
Like Najaran's spell card practice, or Energy manipulation practice, or full powered archery practice, to name just a few. He'd been practising with Piccolo on producing a ki blast, but was not confident in his control to try it on the Train.
But out here, in the wide open space of the island. It was game time.
You will find Glorfindel meditating near the target range, an unstrung bow by his side. Feel free to come talk to him or just come use the range.

Closed to Najaran
He knew she was nervous about it though, but this was the best time to give it a try. He needed to know what they were working with.
Re: Closed to Najaran
"I am not her Master, and I wish to stay behind because I know what her aim is like!"
"Coward," she muttered under her breath. And even the thought of snacks didn't perk her up as much as it usually would.
Re: Closed to Najaran
"I am not here to judge you, Najaran," Glorfindel said, "I am here to evaluate your current level and hopefully give you some guidance on how to improve."
"What spell cards do you have, currently? And what is it they are supposed to do?"
Re: Closed to Najaran
"Um... Wind Cutter. Fly. And Magus Mirror which is an odd once since it is classed as both a spell and an item. Wind Cutter is the only attack spell at the moment though."
Re: Closed to Najaran
"What do they each specialize in?"
Re: Closed to Najaran
Re: Closed to Najaran
He considered what she said. "So, these are spells. Hm. Doesn't Cait Sith eat spells? Do you have him out when you practice to help siphon off some of the energy?"
Re: Closed to Najaran
At his suggestion, she blinked. A lot. "I... never thought about that...." she said, a bit stunned.
"In fairness there has not been much training time since he joined us,." Goligan pointed out. "Events have moved too swiftly, and we have rarely been with her Master in that time."
Re: Closed to Najaran
"All right then!" Glorfindel grinned at them both. "Shall we give it a try? Or at least ask Cait Sith his opinion? If you could work on your delivery, without having to worry about the power, I'm thinking you may be able to make better progress. Perhaps you'll even be able to practice on the Train?"
[Come on, whip him out :D]
Re: Closed to Najaran
The feline stretched without apparent use of arms, then trotted right over to Glorfindel for pets, as are his due.
Re: Closed to Najaran
He'd let Najaran do the actual invitation of course. They were her cards and this was her fight, so to speak.
Re: Closed to Najaran
"His plan," Naja said quickly, dumping it back in hid lap.
Re: Closed to Najaran
"Right now, the combination of her and the spell card are too strong, so she cannot maintain control very well. If you are willing, and able, of course, we'd like you to siphon off some of the spell power so she can wotk on her control...and aim." He stopped petting for a moment, so he could ask, "What do you think?"
Re: Closed to Najaran
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that," Najaran said sheepishly.
Re: Closed to Najaran
Re: Closed to Najaran
"I... might have accidentally almost killed Zenith," Najaran admitted sheepishly. "Cait Sith absorbed his Tempest spell to keep everyone safe, but I had to aim him quick. It was hard missing him, and if he hadn't ducked he'd have gotten fried for sure," she said, regretfully.
Re: Closed to Najaran
He looked at Goligan. "Think it could work?"
[ooc: You should have seen me describing this in my head. "Instead of "AAAAAAHhhhhH!!! (flail, flail, mess everywhere)", it would be "Aaah!!" followed by "Aaah!!"?" And yes, there were hand motions.]
Re: Closed to Najaran
Najaran stared at him wide eyed. Goligan considered, then said honestly "I... do not know."

But when he spotted Glorfindel's little range on his way out to the ocean, he paused and flew downwards to catch the elf before he headed further out.
"How goes it?" he asked as he landed on the beach a little ways away from Glorfindel.
no subject
"It is about to go, actually. You know how we've been working on me producing a ki blast like yours? Except I've been reluctant to do so on the train? This is the perfect time and place!" Glorfindel looked excited and his eyes were sparkling more than usual.
no subject
Now really was the perfect time to try out a new attack, especially a large scale and powerful one. Piccolo himself was looking forward to getting further away so he could do the same after all.
"Yeah, it's a good time for that."
no subject
He closed his eyes for a moment as he drew one hand down in front of his chest, as if gathering something. There was a shimmer in the air above and around his hand as he did so.
His eyes opened and his hand snapped forward as if throwing something. Moments later, the wooden target went up in blue flame and the sand immediately around it melted into a large puddle of glass.
"Well...not exactly what I was going for," Glorfindel said. "But I'll take it."
no subject
"It hit the target and did damage. Not bad for a first attempt honestly." He didn't say he'd seen worse as he was thinking but it was sort of implied with his tone and words. "But it might help--what were you going for?"
no subject
"I was trying for something similar to your ki blasts," he said. "Except that I wanted something a little different. Fire, hot enough to melt metal, if need be. Which..." he gestured at what was left of the target, "that did fit the bill. Perhaps the fact it is not visible until it hits is a good thing? What do you think?"
no subject
In other words he certainly didn't disapprove. Granted, he was normally straight forward and less deceptive than that in a true battle but--sometimes things weren't always so ideal. If people were going to cheat and use it on him, he might as well approve of what works specially if it means saving the world to do it.
no subject
He took a deep breath. "That is my background. That is why I walk so silently that I have to ring a bell, by hand, that I wear at my waist in order to not sneak up on people on the Train. I will work on making a version of this that is more visible for when we fight honorable enemies, but," he shook his head, "I will not consider this anything less than a success."
no subject
Truth be told, he had been one of them once upon a time actually. His birth date was an ugly reminder of that whenever he thought about it. The holiday "Piccolo's Day" had been solely created for the idea to randomly chose an entire city to destroy. Just for a bit of fun for the evil family.
That was besides the point for now. The point was Piccolo understood.
"Then don't." It was short and succinct but he meant it. If Glorfindel thought of it as a success then Piccolo wouldn't object. He had no reason to. It would be a good attack when it was needed.
no subject
"I do still want to work on a more visible version," he assured Piccolo. "But keep this as a backup for when we need it."
"And then, I want to learn to fly!" Wouldn't his horse be jealous, when he got home.
no subject
"A grand idea. I'll pay closer attention to the energy you use and see if I can help figure it out," he told Glorfindel.
He chuckled softly. "A popular technique." He didn't blame anyone for wanting to learn it but it was kind of amusing to him. Of course, as a Namekian the ability to fly had been rather natural from a very young age. Some Namekians literally learned how to fly before they could walk.

So after a while Madoka does show up at the target range, quickly spotting Glorfindel sitting there. She runs up to him with a smile on her face.
"Mister Glorfindel! Were you thinking about practicing?"
no subject
"Also, would you be interested in seeing if your arrows can explode upon impact? That might be handy if we are ever going against something in a lot of armor or a rock based creature or trying to get through a closed door," he explained. He wasn't sure that her arrows could, but you don't know if you don't try.
no subject
It helped that she needed to improvise in a high stakes situation during the last mission. Not to mention the fact that Maru had told her that she could do anything as long as she could imagine it.. It really helped her to get a better grasp on her powers. And that's what makes her smile widely at Glorfindel too, looking rather proud of herself for once.
"Should I show you?"
no subject
no subject
"That's probably for the best.. I've used it in battle, but not for practice yet.." And in battle it's a lot less of a problem if you're not fully careful yet with your powers. It just means you take out only more monsters! "It should probably be fine, but-- um, please find a safe position just in case, okay, mister Glorfindel?"
no subject
"Ready when you are!"
no subject
Don't worry, Glorindel, Madoka isn't offended in the slightest that he's able to view over her so easily.. She realises well enough that she's a pocket sized girl, okay. And it's true that it would be very, very hard for her to hit him like this, so it's a win-win situation.
The girl summons her bow to her hand - that part goes so easily now, it just feels natural - and after sucking in a breath, she pulls the string back and fires. Though she doesn't use the targets he's set up to aim at. Instead the girl aims for the sky - the reason why becoming very clear a few moments later, because as her magical arrow shoots up into the sky, it explodes up there - and all the pink light really does make it look like firework.
no subject
"I can see how that came in handy during the last mission," he agreed. "Do you have more tricks as well?" he asked.
no subject
"Um, I think I should be able to do more with it in the future.." Her voice at first trails off, but then Madoka shakes her head, realising she should explain it more properly. Glorfindel is kind of like her teacher aside from just being her friend, after all! "I talked about it with Maru, and he said that this is my power, and that I should be able to do anything I want with it as long as I can imagine it."
no subject
"That one," he looked up at the sky again, "that one might be useful against unmanned drones or to stop armored vehicles." He would never ask her to use it against an armored person. "Break up the drone, or stop the vehicle from moving. Those would be very helpful, depending on the mission. It could also be used as a signal flare. There are a dozen uses for just that one new skill." He smiled down at her. "Just imagine what else you can do!"
no subject
"Don't you think it might have to become a little bigger to stop something as big as an armored vehicle though?" Madoka is thinking something along the lines of a tank, after all, and the thought of her stopping one of those feels wild to her. "I feel like I still have a long way to go."
Wrap?
"Shall we do some now? Take advantage of this beautiful day out in the sunshine and the wide open spaces?"
sure!
"Okay, sir!"
Madoka knows that she should probably stop training after a while, before anyone gets too mad at her or worried over her working too hard on this little 'vacation' they're having here, but.. surely a little bit can't hurt.
"Let's do our best!"

Instead, she had gathered a small pile of coconuts. The coconuts didn't have an odic field because they were inert. But, if she THREW them, that motion generated just the TINIEST amount of a field. Just enough for Mahto's Magic Missile to lock on to. It was also good practice for casting the spell quickly, because she only had a second or two after she threw them before it hit the ground again.
So that's what she's doing. Throwing coconuts, then shooting them with magic missiles, causing them to explode and shoot coconut milk everywhere.
Don't worry, she's not throwing them NEAR anyone.
no subject
"Want to see what I learned to do yesterday?" he asked. "I've been working with Piccolo on learning to focus. I am so excited to show you!"
no subject
She dropped the coconut she'd been about to throw back into the pile. "I suppose. What did you have in mind?"
no subject
This was not an innate skill, but one he'd had to practice and meditate on, and he figured that if anyone could appreciate the hard work that had gone into figuring this out, it would be her.
"Want to see?" he asked.
no subject
What a curious thing to say. Samata stepped back, interested in what he was going to do next.
Glorfindel grinned at her. "What do you think? Piccolo suggests making it flashier."
no subject
She was staring at the puddle of glass on the beach. How had he DONE that? Obviously, Glorfindel had an enormous reserve of magic to work with, but the actual technique was of great interest to her.
She grabbed her glasses from a bag she had that was doing duty as a purse and threw them on her face so she could watch the exactly flow of magic and said "Do it again!"
