flatteries: (so what; have you gone blind)

It's exactly because the other gives him so much space to retreat or dismiss the question that Inigo feels all the more guilty for contemplating doing so. Roland is so nice and sweet, and Inigo doesn't want to actively hide anything from him.

But because Roland is so nice and sweet, because Roland is his paternal figure here.. that's exactly why Inigo feels he can't talk about those memories. Not all of them. He thinks back on that last memory. Of fighting to exhaustion, to tears. Of being covered in blood. Of trying to hide it all from the world, trying to carry it all on his own shoulders. What would it help Roland to know that? It would just hurt him, and Roland looks like he's already been hurt enough today. Inigo won't be any further cause of that, if he can help it.

He knows he has to at least offer up something here though, or he'll feel bad. Like Roland is giving more than Inigo himself is, especially since he described - although vaguely - two memories already.

Maybe he can just go for the safest topic, even though even that is still tender.

"Lord Gyousou saw my mother, the second time." He turns his gaze away from Roland, instead staring straight ahead of him. "Back when I was younger." And she was still alive. And things were better. "I wish I could have seen her too."
