So Far

It's been a hard few days of cajoling the citizens of the Shining City into and through the catacombs. Many still talk about returning to the comforts of the city, scoffing at the idea of danger. But slowly, as they get further away from the city, more and more of them break out of the illusion. Though some remain lost in the illusion still, the majority are clear-minded by Kazoo 9.

Their mission changes from hurrying stubborn people along to comforting them as the truth dawns on them. The atmosphere becomes more desperate, more angry. More driven.

A plan is offered by the citizens: there is a cavern marked on their maps that opens up to the surface. It can be used as a base whilst any that feel able can go out to join the fight against the demons.

New Allies

Not long after breaking camp on the ninth day of the month of Kazoo they reach the cavern. However, it is clear straight away that something is wrong. The cavern is dark with no exits to be seen, and the Voidtreckers will quickly learn they are not alone. There's a small camp in the cavern, all humans, and after a tense moment they will welcome the citizens and their escorts.

Their story is simple: they were outside the city fighting when they got overwhelmed; they took shelter in the cavern but a gate opened nearby on the surface and caused a cave in. None of the scouts they had sent through the tunnels to the city have returned. Their food is running out and they were on the verge of heading to the city regardless of what they might find there when the Voidtreckers arrived.

Breaking Free

The cave-in is a large one, several metres thick at its weakest and blocking the exit to the outside completely. Those trapped here have made some progress but it's going to take a lot of hands, and potentially some magical help, to clear the blockages.

If they can clear it though, it will mean those who can fight, both citizen and Voidtrecker can begin to head back towards the city to fight, without having to re-enter the range of the illusionary Shining City.

The cavern makes a good staging point, and a secure place for those who cannot fight. Even with the blockage clear it is easy to defend, and holds the same sanctified protections as the tunnels themselves.

[ Alleyana nods in turn, taking that in stride. Stealth and recon but also a combatant, the stranger is categorized in the back of her head as a rogue. ]

Well, if shit comes calling and you need cover, I'm good for it.

[ Alley taps the shield with her singular, gloved hand. ]

Kinda my job in a fight.

[ Glancing at the shield, Kitty nods. ]

[ If she was going to call for help, it would be best to know the name of who she's calling. ]

[ In a red train uniform, no less. But not everyone on red team is suited to flinging themselves through demon gates and breaking high up rocks. The Inquisitor has decided her services are more useful with blue, so far for this mission. ]

Probably not the best circumstances, but nice to meet you.

[ Kitty is wearing a purple hoodie herself, over the X-suit she'd ordered from home, so she's not entirely surprised about someone from another team being here. ]

I wouldn't really say many, but I've been on a few of them so far. How about you?

[ Even with how crowded the train can feel, it was long enough that there are still people Kitty hasn't met since she first arrived. ]

This is just my second. I was here for the last one, too. On the really big hollow world with... monkeys that weren't monkeys and vines that weren't vines.

[ To be fair, it was pretty weird. ]

[ Kitty nods. ] Yeah...to be honest, that one was probably the weirdest mission I've been on since I got on the train.

But I think this one has been the most intense.

So I'm not the only one who thought that shit was bizarre? Good.

[ It's not entirely because it was her first mission! ]

No, it was definitely strange. Especially since we didn't get a lot of information in the beginning, so it was hard to tell what we were doing.

[ Like, there had been some info besides 'you two teams get off here, and you two teams get off there', but not much more. ]

Although the hollow world was as big a mystery, I think. Demons clawing their way onto a mortal world is something I've dealt with before. The... wires?

[ Is that the right word? For what the vines had been disguised as? She's not sure. ]

That was new. And did we ever find out what was really going on?

Sssssomewhat? To be honest, I don't really remember.

[ The mission had been successful, so they must have, but Kitty had been busy and now she isn't really sure. ]

Mmn. Well, it was definitely fucking weird.

[ To say the least. ]

At least fighting demons is normal, where I'm from. Didn't used to be, but we had... essentially portals? pop up all over Thedas for a few years there, spilling demons.

[ It's the most simple way to explain the tears in the Veil without, you know, explaining the Veil, and the Fade, and spirits and demons and-- ]

I was the only one who could close those, there. Words can't express how glad I am that that isn't the case this time.

Oh wow. I've ever only seen demon-like things once, and that was pretty much enough for me.

[ She wouldn't admit it, but that had been one of the reasons she didn't want to be on the front lines. ]

I'm pretty much all demon-ed out, myself.

[ She gets it. ]

Yeah. Hopefully we can finish this mission up soon too.

[ She hadn't admitted it out loud to anyone, but this world in particular kind of freaked her out. ]
