Dawn Attack

It's been a busy few days of fighting demons, attacking keystones and fighting both on the demon and human planes. On the morning of day nine of the month of Kazoo a gate opens close to the base camp that the two teams have made.

It seems the demons have decided to focus on this unexpected threat, because it is a sizable force, with a number of the large demons. They march towards the camp with single-minded focus, the opportunity to stop these unwanted defenders taking precedence over their desire to destroy the city.

The advantage to the landscape being as ruined as it is, is that there isn't much to stop the lookouts from seeing this force headed towards them. A gate opening is not subtle. There should be enough time to make sure the defenders are ready.

Scouting Ahead

Once that skirmish is won those on the Red team will find their SCA's beeping, with an exclamation point far out to the east.

A group of demons is congregating at the location indicated. Investigate why, defeat the demons and close any gates nearby.

It will take a while to get there and there is plenty to do on the way for those that follow the exclamation point. Roaming packs of demons, gates to be closed. Exhausting work, especially for those going in and out of the demon gates.

Protecting the City

Once it is clear that these defenders are not going to be easy to wipe out, the attacks on the city itself get more frequent. The demons have changed tactics: rather than sending in large groups they open many small portals, sending small strike teams to harry and target individuals.

Some of the attacks are clearly meant as traps: they open the gates in or very close to the city, to lure the Voidtreckers in to where they will be affected by the spell. Ranged attacks may be useful here.

Uh oh.

Well at least the sleet is still going. "Erm... ...I guess we'll find out? ...I haven't really had time to listen, it takes a lot of focus to do all of this it turns out," he laughs, sounding a bit nervous. He's doing a lot of new things this time, and boy is it both exciting and stressful!

Good stuff, metalman. Tidus scans their immediate area, no demons amongst them but the ones already pre-occupied, being taken down by their fellow passengers. He looks back though to the guy, or- whatever they should be called.

"Got you for a wall behind me, I'm good! How you holding out? You need any healing? A magic boost? Sure don't need any defence from me!"

They've got plenty.

Back to back sword fighting, or well. Fighting in general, is what this is going to end up as a result- it does at least mean they can keep the other in check.

And talk, of course. "Not a problem- it's easy to get caught up in a fight, neh? Particularly with these numbers-"

A pause for a strike-

"...though fortunately they aren't much on their own in comparison..."

"I think we both should be thankful for that." Nozomi said, nodding.

"Oh, heads up!" she called out, stabbing beside Yuume's head to nail a demon sneaking up behind her. "...they're not so smart, either."

He smiles and wraps his arms around him, relaxing into his embrace. "I'm very lucky to have you."

He doesn't know how many are going to require the sword but it would e good to get into a habit of working with one again.

He was pointedly ignoring the demand of his departure.

"It's fine, it's fine. We'll figure it out!" Demyx said with a smile and started to play again, the music manipulating some water into some geysers.

They happened to conveniently appear under some demons, shooting them up into the air.

"I think..." Demyx hesitated. Was he lucky? He didn't really think he was, really.

"I mean, I guess?" He wasn't sure.

"Well, uh, not really. I mean the train makes us do that sleeping thing, but at home we hunt at night sometimes. A lot more now. It's just too inconvenient not to...and if we aren't doing that, we sometimes stay up late talking." Prompto said agreeably, because they did do that, although sometimes they just crashed too. It was a tiring roadtrip.

Kairi looked down at the demon. She felt kinda bad but at the same time it was kill or be killed at this point. In all honesty though she knew the demon was so badly hurt that it wouldn't survive even if they left them alone.

So out of mercy she decided to give it the final blow before looking over, slightly confused briefly. "This is a keyblade and yes, Sora is my friend. One of my best friends I guess you would say... Do you know him?"

He looks around for something he could potentially use as a door but there isn't much at their disposal. "A little luck is better then no luck. But we would still need something like a door. I have a way to get us to the camp quickly but it's not always a sure thing."

'Very' bright. Yeah, that's one way to put it, alright.

"Yeah. I'm fine." Both a reiteration of her lie, and an answer about her eyes. Her vision is mostly back to normal now. But, the fact that all that magic is just... gone, without a trace... Now that she's getting a look at him, he doesn't look like an angel, even if he's dressed like he works at some kind of shrine.

"What... What the hell was that?" Not the most polite way to ask, that's for sure. And definitely the most important thing to focus on, not the fact that she can barely stand.

"I like to think so too." She is one full of hope and optimism. It was why she was trying her best to keep going no matter what, even if she was tired and knows she should probably take a break or something.

Maybe a break would have been the best idea, but she soon looked over. "Like...super strength means super strong right? But also wouldn't you get tired if you did that?"

"You have me and all of my luck forever." He murmured warmly.

"Gege try to get some rest and sleep. When we wake up, we're going to fight again." That's one thing to be sure of and for certain when the nap, the meditation, and the spirit energy charging is over.

"And probably a disaster or two along the way," Danny agrees easily. He knew his luck, and he knew that it was never this easy.

"Well I mean, most of the missions I go on end up being traps? I'm not entirely sure what a non-trap feels like?"

There are plenty of arguments Alice could have - and has against the first part of what he says. And she's just about ready to fire them off when the second half of what he says makes her stop and frown for a moment.

"Meant to be?" Path? She's not entirely sure what path he's suddenly talking about. "What do you mean?"

[Hearing this gets Vexen earned a look, one that's telling of not about to listen to any of that and get a lecture instead.]

Vexen. There are others out there who can heal, and others who are effective against the demons. I'm of great use out there, but there are others here who may need help as well. Does the camp not need defending as well?

[Things she told herself to stay put for a bit, even if she's itching to go blast demons with holy fury.]

His initial impulse is to shrug Ryo's hand off, but that would be a bit too rude. Instead, he edges away slightly, hoping to indicate his preference for personal space without coming across as ungrateful for the effort at comforting him...only to look down at a quiet boop and a tugging at his pants legs.

"I...believe so."

He bends down to see if the machine will let him pick it up, hopefully before it accidentally pulls him off balance.

"I am not in danger, I was merely...startled by the sudden flames."

He growled and blasted at five demons at once. "Powers that have to do with traveling to or communicating with other worlds have been diminished. A lot."

He supposed he’d just have to hope a summons could pull him away, in that case.

"You're welcome," Mami answered with a gentle smile.

"Do you want to recover somewhere more comfortable? I still have room in the healing tent."

Yes! She's a Pokémon, and my partner. She keeps my magic strong.

[ Another smile, and with some concentration the wing should improve fairly quickly. ]

And it's my job to help keep everyone strong.

But the wing feels better, even able to move it just a bit without any tenseness. Not moving it much to let Mami heal it fully.]

She helps keep your magic strong? Such a wonderful creature. [A pause, then sigh.] You are not alone in keeping everyone safe and strong, you can rely on us as well.

The exhaustion of fighting all day actually hits him when he is laying down. "Good night, daozhang." The words are said quietly, drowsily as he is already drifting off.

This is Sora's Kairi. The princess who always knows what to do because of her super-pure heart. Who'd saved Sora's life, when he'd lost his heart. Sure, they'd known her name was Kairi, but they hadn't thought to connect the two. Jesus Christ.

"I. Yeah, I did. It's complicated." They miss him suddenly, powerfully, and swallow hard. They'd spent so long looking for his lantern. This is probably a bad place to talk about it, but they're not sure they can get around it now. "C'mon, let's keep going."
