The Will to Fight: Conclusion

The battles rage loud and ferocious at the gates of the city and off in the ruined wastelands of Erda, and on the walls a struggle of a different kind occurs. The team who stayed behind at the towers are small but determined as they move stoically across the walls to right the stones that have become misaligned, even as their friends battle not too far away.

The city begins to hum. It's a quiet hum, not loud enough to be heard out where the others are fighting but it vibrates even through stone. The recovering monks assure them that it is done, the wards are back up and no demon will be able to enter the city.

Eventually the battle is won, all three battles. The demons fought back and killed, a major blow to their gate system that will keep them back for hopefully a long time. Those waiting in the caverns return to the city and by the time they get there the illusions are gone. Everyone can see the world for what it really is.

But despite the ruins of their world the people are relieved, the adrenaline of the fight coursing through their veins and the mood is one of hope. They will build again, their people will survive.

It has landed not too far from the city, cloaked to make it unnoticeable to the citizens, for all the good that does. No one has been particularly subtle this last week. People can begin regrouping, packing up the camp and getting any wounded not already healed to the train.

However roughly half an hour later another message appears on their SCA.

Passenger Persephone has requested we remain on system System #86525656412355 for an additional day to further assist the people of Erda. The Voidtrecker Express will depart on the morning of Day Fifteen of the month of Kazoo.

The train remains where it is, so the voidtreckers can use its facilities. There is definitely a lot that can be done to assist those of this world and the citizens will welcome any helping hands.

After an extra day they finally depart, returning to the void once more.

(OOC Note: Once the wards are up any characters who are demonic in nature will not be able to enter the city either!)

"I've gone with little sleep before too. I was and am part of a superhero team, remember?" But his point is fair, and she'll try to do to better now that she knows he won't mind.

"You just gotta have faith that you'd get the card you'd need." You know heart of the cards and all that. But it was ultimately a game of luck if you'd get the cards you need sometimes.

"What is the combo if I may ask?"

"I hope you didn't get hurt though trying, or too hurt anyway." Good that he at least figured to try, but still mistakes happen and he hoped they were never too serious.

"They did. There were cave-ins in some places and such. Though it was someone else who actually helped us get through such things."

No matter how many time she saw it she will always be amazed.

"Yeah, it was kinda like waking up one day with a sticky note stuck where I couldn't reach it." 'God' was such a downgrade for him.

"I'm glad mister Wen Ning!" After all he had looked a little lonely sat out here alone so Romeo was glad he had lifted his spirits with cute food!

"Maybe we can try and figure out how to cook some cute food together sometime, so we can cheer everyone else up!"

Keeping peoples spirits up was something that was far too often needed on this train.

It could. It could also - and should also - be a bit more discerning as to whom it selects.

Though I do have to wonder how many people would willingly put their lives on hold to help an unknown, unmanned train accomplish missions across unfamiliar worlds. If the train required recruits to replace its missing crew, it may not have had the time or wherewithal to search for volunteers.

I am not saying that it is correct; I am only saying that desperate people do not always make the best of decisions.

"I remember. Don't mean it's healthy, though. Maybe when you hit your thirties I'll stop harping on it." But the smile they're giving her over their shoulder is to show they're mostly teasing. They put the first sandwich together on the pan and let it start to sizzle under a lid, to get the cheese nice and melty.

That's stupid, but he's not going to say that. Not out loud, at least. "Well... Kaiba is working on a custom card for me with Koromaru on it. So it'll be a beast type... and if I can get both Burning Spear and Axe of Despair on him, it'll raise his attack power by 1400. ... Beast Fangs is good, too. I've seen him bite down on some Shadows really hard if his knife gets knocked out of his mouth."

"We wanted to help some more. But the people in the town were scared of Guilmon."

So they'd decided it would be better not to frighten them, when they'd already gone through so much.

"Ah! Yes, we should do that. I've never cooked for quite this many people before, but we some help we could do it." There were only around fifty people or so at the Burial Mounds, and he'd had help when he cooked then too - aside from those rare times when he insisted on doing everything himself.

"A lot of the passengers would like that, I'm sure." Aside from the few that insisted on being spoilsports by default.

"I think they would! It would make everyone smile."

Some people might be grumpy, but he bet they would like cute food really even if they felt they needed to grump about it!

"There's lots of people but I bet people would help us too!"

"Who could tell? I had my eyes closed, and then, poof, there's a fox. Who expects that?"

Those seconds are the longest 2.5 seconds of her day so far, but fortunately he turns back .5 of a second before she gives up and reaches to pick him up. As it is, her hands twitch, but settle back into her lap. Better to just get comfortable herself, and peer at his book.

"An excellent and... something..." she can't read that word. And those are names, after it. She squints until the train's language magic overrides her illiteracy just enough to give her the names. "Romeo and Juliet?"

One more try. More squinting. Sad... "Oh, it's a tragedy." Her nose wrinkles.

"Oh." It's just a small oh, where Tidus realises he had Inigo and Naga's whole deal wrong, and letting it settle in his head. He puts a single twirl of pasta into his mouth, chewing it down quick and in time for when he lets out a little laugh, tipping his head.

"Well, I don't have any stories like that like you two do. The closest we have... the guy wasn't a god, and the fayth - those're what summoners prayed to. I tell you both Yuna was one?" He takes a second to look at them both, but either way- "but those were like, uh... everyday people, sorta! Or, they used to be. They didn't have a role with the...world, like all your guys do?"

Some kind of destined role, as it were.

"And they didn't do anything, 'cept with the summoners." Another short laugh. "I guess they aren't the same at all."

Not really.

And off they go. It's difficult to say which creature makes herself more comfortable. The fox dozes off first, nose tucked into its paws and breath sending small flurries of snowflakes to melt against Sizhui's robes. A-Qing is kept awake mostly by residual adrenaline, and the overriding need to talk.

She starts out with a little bit of chatter about her opinion of the battle - a mess - and what she plans to do next - sleep - and how the newly-arrived cat-eared Hanguang-jun threatened her with rules and a headband - can you imagine. She doesn't stay on any one topic long enough to allow him to respond, mind too tired to settle. After a minute or so, she yawns, losing her place in her monologue.

"... Anyway, I forgot. What's it called when you make someone see something that isn't there?"

"Like an evil demon," she grouched, but dutifully lifted herself from the crumpled pile she'd twisted herself into so he could confirm for himself that she was all present and accounted for.

Hey, she'd only lost half her body mass once in the last ten months, okay? Pretty good!

Also, the movement allows her to reach for the plate. Ooh. If there was an app, she'd totally give him five stars. Good service! Good quality!

He leans a little closer, for a better look. "And she goes to school for this force? Do they teach her meditation, martial arts, things like that?"

"Nah I've been pretty lucky and it turns out I'm pretty handy with tech stuff. I maintain all my own machines really." Prompto grinned. "Some of the weapons I use are unfamiliar tech and we can't always go see Cid."

"Really?" Demyx asked, tilting his head a bit. "What did they do to do that? Was it magic or something?"

He was mostly just curious, and didn't see why he couldn't ask.

It's because you care so much. He doesn't respond to that in the moment, but it's going to stick with him.

Here in the moment, he purses his lips. "Revenge just leads to more blood shed," he murmurs-- ironically, standing as he is on a churned battlefield of spilled blood. He shakes his head. "Revenge doesn't bring the dead back; it doesn't change anything. It's--"

What it is is deeply alarming to him that he had turned so violent, so bloodthirsty in the grip of the evil trick. Was that really his most base instinct? Was-- was there really a killer that vengeful inside him?

Something else that's going to stick with him.

For now, though, he nods. "True. As long as we're in this together, we help each other." A smile touches his lips. "So again, thank you-- ah." He laughs a little, self-consciously. "I'm sorry, I have no idea who you are other than 'one of us'. I'm Devero."

"It's a promise, then. At some point we'll cook a meal together for everyone."

Wen Ning's smile becomes a grin and he holds out his hand for the boy to take.

Romeo's grin grew even larger and he took Wen Ning's hand. "A promise! Do you know how to do pinky promises?"

Because that was the only real way to seal a deal like this!

"Thank you." For a lot of things.

Thanatos hasn't fully realized that he would end up in one of the luggage case. If he did, he might have thought differently of his choice. However, not knowing, Thanatos simply stiffens to help Persephone brace herself. Once she's up, he'll wobble float into the air.

He then drifts to the shade of the nearest tree and collapses against its trunk. A second later, he's passed out, lulled by something he never knew he needed.

Yes, I was in a war. I know full well it's not always possible.

[He's also traveled way to much to also know it's much harder to actually find a time when it's calmer. But at the same time, he knows he wouldn't sleep when it's too chaotic. There is a set level between the two, however.]

One has to find the perfect balance. But that is sometimes much easier said than done since that balance is different for each person.

Her shoulder rolls again, a shrug. "Guess I'm just stubborn that way." They're both worn out, though, so she leans back against the wall again, and flips her book back open. Gives him some privacy. She hopes. "If you ask me, some of us need to be slowed down. You have time to toughen up."
