Let's Get Down to Business

Let's Get Down to Business

On day twenty two of the month of Llama a message comes up on the ICP's.

Voidtreckers have many questions about what happened on system #93426194992 and the entity that was encountered. Analysis shows that the entity on system #93426194992 was also present on systems #86525656412355 and #2207385.

Though it is not known what that entity is, it is clear that it possesses some level of mind influence and complex illusionary magic.

There is a void nexus on system #62138 inhabited by a religious order that, due to their close proximity to the void, employ mental techniques to help with such illusions.

We will be visiting system #62138 for three Days. The Voidtrecker express will remain with the Voidtreckers during this time and due to the nature of the void nexus it is highly advisable to sleep on board.

System #62138 is a wet world. All Voidtreckers will be safe but are advised to keep their SCAs on at all times. This should be the standard on all systems.

THE VOID NEXUS

From the windows of the Voidtrecker Express, passengers see the Void Nexus as a vast island surrounded by darkness, punctuated with rivets of colours running through the sky that casts a glow of blues and violets as they descend closer to the surface. The world faintly blurs the way one’s sight does when sinking into the depths of an ocean, the train manoeuvring around tall rocks that rise like digitates, a sea-green hue deepening over the rocky land outside.

The train doors open from each carriage, and luckily it’s not a flood that welcomes them but clammy air cool to the skin. They come out to a section of land sparse of more than tunicate-like plants under their feet, pools of silvery water otherwise sunk between small pathways that lead like bridges forward.

Which is likely their destination, a vast coral-like structure with a high opening awaiting them - and as they get closer, a being far taller than any of the Voidtrecker themselves.

ARRIVAL

They are met by a tall robed figure. First glance will show them to be a deep purple in colour with a domed head and long tentacles sprouting from their chin that sway slightly when they move. Still they nod deeply and their mouth moves into a shape that could be interpreted as a smile.

"Welcome to those of the VoidTrecker Express. Your arrival was foretold and we have awaited you. Please accept our hospitality."

They lead them onwards, explaining that outsiders are always welcome here but ask them to remain within the public parts of the temple. They further explain that their order is for the most part a silent one. There is no restriction on the voices of guests but they should not be insulted if the members of the order do not answer.

Once a small tour has been conducted the Voidtreckers are left to their own devices to train or explore as they see fit.

IT'S A TRAINING MONTAGE

Going through to the back of the temple will lead them outside once more, the gentle sound of falling water greeting them at what seems to be a distance. But yet - faint as it is to see, glistening in translucent silvers and pinks - the water is quite near and wide, spilling from the high mountain cliff that borders in an otherwise enclosed space. The pool takes up a large portion of this garden, of coral reef and circled stone pathways where every step must be considered, unless you’d like a surprise trip and dip.

Fortunately, the silver water here is light. Submerging yourself in it or sitting under its flow, you won’t find the hard rush of its weight over your heads and shoulders, and the same weightlessness follows you going under. You find that you can breathe and when you come away from the lake, your body and clothes are lightly damp at most.

Still, there is plenty of ground to walk along without going over the pool. However, the first steps of learning mental fortitude against illusionary obstacles will take you into...

[ MEDITATION. ] To combat irrationalities is to iron your own reactions to them. You are instructed to sit where you find it comfortable: those unused to mental training should keep to the shoreline, while the more intermediate may find taking the stone steps out to large limpet-shaped shells - sizeable to fit 3-4 people each - a better challenge. Those more daring should sit under the waterfall or to go into the water’s depths, where you at least don’t need to worry about breathing, or even getting that wet.

To get wet isn’t the purpose, fortunately. The purpose comes the moment you close your eyes - for as soon as you do, you feel. You sense. Some other, some thing, a presence your mind decides must be there. This sensation is lighter by the shore, but sitting above the water or submerging yourself inside it brings it stronger against you. In truth there is nothing there, no one but the other Voidtreckers, but the spell of the water - or is it the void within the water? - makes your brain think otherwise, logic not welcome company.

Being in groups can help ease the effects through the SCAs, but otherwise, true control comes down to yourself. Breaks are recommended, as there’s no point wearing down an already exhausted mind. Your mind is your defence. Strengthen it. Wield it as a weapon.

[ Combat. ]

Though not exactly what they are here for Voidtreckers will notice that this order of void worshipers train in a form of martial arts. They train outside, using the watery air as part of their movement. Training is done in large group sessions and without weapons. It has a strong focus of listening to the world around them and fighting in a way that makes them one with the world, using the environment to their advantage.

Even though that might not seem the most useful to people who won't be fighting in an environment such as this world, it is at least a good form of exercise.

Any voidtrecker who is curious is welcome to join in the training and those that show especial interest can take more specific lessons aimed at beginners.

TRAVELLING THE NEXUS

[ OUTSIDE THE TEMPLE. ] While the lake and surrounding temple will help to strengthen one’s mental defences with perseverance and training, there is more that can be done away from the temple, and the island is free to be explored. The Voidtrecker Express is stationed where it dropped everyone off, and returning to it will offer everyone a mental relief regardless of the levels of their ongoing training.

The marshland continues beyond the train, one route mostly made by the natural stone pillars that rise up from the ground like stalagmites. Higher cliffs can be climbed by those who wish to, if just for a higher view, curiosity, or privacy. From wherever you look, this island gives off the same impression as most of it already has: sea-like.

[ PLANTS. ] Underfoot, there is not earth-like grass or flowers, but seagrass, kelp, algae and more. They grow along the stone, idly waving as if submerged in water and pushed by unseen waves. Strange blue plants with purple-tipped tendrils will wiggle if touched, while at the higher levels, small bulbs of some kind cluster around the size of a fist. Types of plankton make the gnats of this nexus, too tiny most of the time to be noticed as more than dots to the eyes.

[ CREATURES. ] Also, don’t forget the fish. As tiny as a pinky finger, as big as a hand, the size of a human; they swim through the air, not particularly caring for the Voidtreckers, but also not looking to engage with them. The larger of the fish travel higher than the smaller, and those as big as whales farther up than even the taller cliffs can reach. For those that have any ideas of hunting, they will know - mysteriously, as if recalling the thought - that they should go for the larger fish, and not harm the younger, smaller ones. Those are tastier, after all.

[ STONE FOREST. ] Travel low or high, the way will take them to what appears to be a forest that spans across a large portion of the central island. But as the rest of the nexus is, this is no ordinary, woody land. Its trees are stone, coral, rising high and jagged, the water in the atmosphere denser in this jungle of rock. It turns the world a sea-green to move through, with plants and coral everywhere to be seen. The air denser, thicker, leaving small droplets of water on skin and clothes.

There are no real paths than the spaces between the ‘trees’, but there are guides to find your way to somewhere: pink jellyfish, or something of the sort floating around. They are the shiri as the monks call them, and looking upon them will tell you they will help you find where you need to go, that they will aid you if you get lost and think of them. And for those whose thoughts lean such a way, they will know that harming them will bring a greater injury to the individual who does so tenfold, and they will find no guidance at all on this nexus until they have repented.

Read: Enjoy being stuck on the train for the rest of the stay.

[ CONCH LAKE. ] For those less destructive, a short travel through the stone forest will lead them to a lake, with what can only be described as a conch shell gazebo accessible in its centre. Bubbles float up and around, balls of water made to linger by whatever strange force controls this place. They can be made to bounce away and around with a touch, and respond to being thrown as a ball might. Just, watch out: They like to burst at random, no matter the force used, scattering as tiny beads all over the air.

The water here is different from that around the temple, its colour more blue, but closer to aqua than what many are used to. Yet diving into it will have the similar properties that allows one to hold their breath for much longer than usual, and to move with an ease, like floating weightlessly. There’s no worry if they close their eyes here, a peace radiating from the pool; like a refuge from the trickery that lurks no matter where you are in this nexus.

Climbing out of the pool will have you damp, more appropriately soaked than the temple’s lake. There’s nothing like towels or a great way to dry off, but you can sit and hang around under the conch gazebo if you like.

Or perhaps messing around isn’t what brought you here, but the four iridescent slabs of stone that stand at intercardinal points at the edges of the lake, that speak of the Trials to the mind when you look upon them.

THE FOUR CAVERN TRIALS

There are four caverns, four trials, with each slab suggesting their test. Upon deciding where you will go, a shiri will come to guide your character through the forest to where the stone trees part, and a half an hour walk will lead Voidtreckers to a vesicular cavern.

You know as you approach the cave’s mouth that the shiri will guide you out if you need it, but they stay outside, leaving those searching for advanced training to journey on in themselves. Passengers descend, dots of light coming through the multiple holes above to illuminate the way as you go deeper into the cave.

And you won’t have to go far to find the crystals in any of the caverns, though there’s many pathways to go deeper in. Attacking the stones to break them won’t do much, but when you put your hand on one…

The illusions start, pulling in anyone nearby.

[ CAVE OF PERCEIVING. ]    Bend deceiving labyrinths into your own path.

What is real? What is not? This cave holds a large underground river flowing through it. The water is not too fast flowing or deep but it is cold enough to be a shock if anyone falls in.

Fall in they might for their task is to cross the river. The river is filled with stones large enough to hold a person as they cross. However not all of those stones are real, some are just illusions and if they step on the illusionary rocks they will fall through to the river below.

It is possible to get by on trial and error but the task will not be considered complete until they force their minds to see through the illusions are perceive the one true path.

[ CAVE OF ENDURANCE. ]    Wounds bleed and skin burns only to bodies that believe it.

This cave may differ between Voidtreckers. Sometimes it is a monster they must face or an environmental challenge to battle through.Perhaps the searing heat of a fire or the low altitude and freezing temperature of a mountain top. Perhaps a lizard with claws and teeth. The important part is not defeating the threat but to neutralise the damage. It's not real and the mind can overcome it.

All the caves are probably best faced in groups but this was especially so. They are unlikely to be able to make the damage unreal to start with and so there is likely to be a fight or struggle before they succeed.

[ CAVE OF HEART. ]    To accept crafted desires is to invite everlasting grief.

Here they are in a beautiful place. A meadow, a forest, a rocky beach. The weather is beautiful, not too hot not too cold. A little further in is something they want, something their heart yearns for.

They can't see it yet but they are sure they will, if only they go deeper into the grass, the trees, the water. It is there, just out of reach.

To pass this test they must walk away. Turn around and leave despite their heart calling to them to go deeper.

[ CAVE OF MIND. ]    Craft a weapon from your own vulnerabilities.

Fear does not have to be a weakness. The cave is filled with a lake and in the centre there is a bubble of water, it contains something they fear. They can't see it but they know it is there. Perhaps a person, a place, an object.

Facing a fear is one thing but this task asks for more than that. To accept the fear as part of them, to turn it into a strength to protect others.

This trial is the most personal and perhaps the most difficult. They must step into that space, knowing that they will face what they fear whilst also knowing that it won't be real and use that knowledge and acceptance to bring down the entire illusion, bubble, lake and all.

"...oh." It takes Tidus a good second - looking at the hand he was preparing to pull towards him to concentrate on the spell, fortunately not set of - of trying to figure out if such a spell would have issues under this environment, and deciding:

Probably risky.

He is wondering if he can cast an ice spell however, only managing it for a while since his ability to keep a grasp on it leaving him with sufficient practice. Tiny orbs of multi-colours surround his hand as he attempts to ... poorly figure out his own magic, fingers flexing and brow tight and gaze squinting.

And in that time, a creature does approach Elidibus's 'classical' means of fishing - a fish that looks like a shrimp, about the length of an arm and fortunately not the size comparison on the image, swimming in place as if considering the hanging piece--

and then it snatches at it, attempting to fly off before anyone else gets its food!!

Yes, 'classical'. Direction of line casting aside, there wasn't even a hook on the end. Elidibus had planned to see if he could lure the fish close by artful manipulation of the string.

But there was Tidus, trying to spark poorly managed magic into existence right in his ear, metaphorically speaking. It's more than a little distracting.

"...What spell are you seeking to attempt?" There is just a trace amount of exasperation underlying his question.

Then the fish strikes.

Elidibus's gaze snaps to the 'air' around him, seeking the end of the string with the bait attached. Automatically he seeks to snap the string back which only succeeds in popping the disc of food out of the shrimp-creature's mouth.

Most of the disc anyway. A portion snaps off and is stolen away by the first strike. The Ascian narrows his eyes while looking after the escaping fish. He manages to refrain from making an example of it however and reels in the string.

Bait tied to string: Limited Results.

Elidibus returns his attention to Tidus. "You seemed somewhat proficient in the application of water. What else other than that and thunder do you have skill in?"

Perhaps he will just pretend he wasn't struggling with fishing by offering aid to Tidus.

Riight, pre-blame Tidus for your poor fishing skills on his few swirling lights as he tries to remember how to make ice!! It's an event that didn't go missed by Tidus either, not completely blind by the events going on around him (mostly) - though, it's the question that really gets him to look, cut short by what then happens. The string wiggling, the slice of bizarre nexus fruit that's then snatched up and zoomed off with.

Tidus doesn't follow where it leaves for long, but there is a small 'heh' in his throat when he looks back to the guy, a small friendly "Oops" to commiserate his attempt.

whomp whomp.

But oh, a question. "Uhh, element magic isn't really my thing," he admits with a tiny note of sheepishness. "But you said ice, and I did that once a few times - but we were somewhere cold, so it's not really easy for me to learn again? I can do fire, but-"

But if thunder and water sucked, how much better would fire be? He doesn't figure he needs to finish his rambling, expression pulled into a very hard-thinking frown.

And then - his eyes light up, and he turns back to Elidibus sharply.

"Oh, hey! Give me whatever you're fishing with. I can put stun magic into it!"

Now that's more his kind of spell!

Look. If someone kept flicking the striker on a lighter past the point of all sensible expectation it would bring a flame in your ear, it would probably be distracting too. It is totally a valid excuse reason.

Well no. Elidibus does have a sense of reason to accept his part in being distracted. But in fairness Tidus in general is more interesting than the application of fishing technique. For several reasons.

The string is being untied from the tattered remains of the bait disc. Elidibus has more and a fresh piece is called for. Some lucky fish will be able to snag the remains of the former piece when the Ascian flicks it upward to drift.

"Yes, it would be unlikely to bear fruit if you attempted fire," Elidibus agrees. "Though since you have proved capable of manifesting ice before, whatever the environment, it may simply be a lack of practice than ability. Observe."

Casting a Blizzard spell is a simple affair. Elidibus makes an effort to construct it slowly so it can be observed. His target is not the fish but a convenient stone; upon which a ball of ice spikes forms and bursts. Damage is done but only modestly so.

Once demonstrated, he goes back to affixing the new piece of bait. Or starting to. A pause as Tidus brightens up with a suggestion. Elidibus duly considers the notion. "...Yes, you may attempt the spell. I would be interested to see your ability to imbue an object with a spell's effect." And thus the slice of bait is offered.

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-06-15 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Tidus watches the demonstration, somewhat thoughtful, somewhat - or more, even! - impressed too. The guy knew his magic! ...which, sure, Tidus knew magic too, but was he really going to take anything in from seeing that? When his way of learning was more...hands on. Maybe he could ask some questions, but for now-

Fishing. And a spell he was good at, meaning he's far more confident with the agreement. He motions at the bait and string. "Wrap it up first! We don't wanna touch it again once I put the spell on it. First thing to make contact gets a face full of stun!"

And he didn't that to be this guy.

"This should work. Usually I use it with a sword and just jumping right in with it, but I've been practising. You know, trying to do more with it. And my throw's pretty good."
wewillwewill: (ard-sidelong)

[personal profile] wewillwewill 2021-06-15 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes. Elidibus draws back the bait and secures it properly. It is given its gentle upward flick so it may begin to drift.

Should. And there is confirmation that Tidus seems to have some knowledge of how to imbue a sword with a spell-crafted property.

"You may cast your spell when ready then. I will observe."

Wait.

Tidus gets a sidelong look from Elidibus. "Are you saying it is common for you to throw your spells after they have been formed?" Perhaps he misheard.
blitzcheer: (:O)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-06-16 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eh?" Throw his spells after they've been formed... he's grab the piece of bait anyway, before it can drift too far, only needing cup his hand around it (with at least some contact) than anything too firm. Answering- "I mean, all my spells like stunning, putting an opponent to sleep, blinding them - I do it with a sword normally. But I've been practicing putting them into balls, rocks, that kinda thing. I put spell into the item, then throw it!"

Did that make more sense? Granted, the throwing part wasn't necessary ... but it sure kept him away from the target he was trying to go at. Nevertheless, unless Elidibus has reason to stop him, he'll do the spell now: eyes closing for a second as the energy inside him twists and forms, leading into his hand and to the slice of bait.

It's a small spell, one that coats the strange underwater fruit, and thankfully, Tidus realises as he backs his hand away...isn't going down the string or turning on this guy.

A thought he'll keep to himself, beyond the small smile he gives himself. Good one, Tidus!!
wewillwewill: (ard-sidelong)

[personal profile] wewillwewill 2021-06-16 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, I understand now." Elidibus had wondered for a moment if the spell was literally being 'thrown' rather than 'targeted'. Now he sees that was not the case. After a brief nod he watches Tidus craft the spell for the slice of bait.

No reason to stop the young man. And plenty of reason to watch. Mostly to confirm how well the spell was crafted by Tidus and whether he would need to let go of the string.

It had not escaped the Ascian that the 'imbument' might cover more than the bait. Thankfully everything turned out okay.

"Well done." This earns approval! Elidibus is studying the bait as it slowly drifts in a tempting fashion to any nearby fish. Well not the bait. "It even seems quite stable. Do you find it easier to imbue an object than to craft a spell to directly target your foes?"
blitzcheer: (blitz it babe)

[personal profile] blitzcheer 2021-06-18 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Aw yeah, watch that float! Tidus is, more interested in how well this experiment is going to go than anything else, though Elidibus speaking does get him to look--distractedly at first, with a "Huh? --oh, yeah. 'Cause I learned it that way from friends. Then I don't stop fighting, you know?"

Because magic wasn't really his strong suit, or wasn't in the way he is now. Tidus watches as some types of fish continue on with taking notice of the bait, others swimming around it. But surely, soon...!!
wewillwewill: (ard-sidelong)

[personal profile] wewillwewill 2021-06-19 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Elidibus has somehow gotten the impression Tidus does not possess the patience needed to stand still and channel a powerful enough spell to be effective as a mage combatant. Somehow.

"It is suited to you," he offers. Truly a diplomatic answer, though there is some sincerity in it. It is currently the Ascian's honest first impression. "You are not wont to stand still. What other imbuement are you capable of?"

This time Elidibus keeps a part of his attention on the bait, both to mind the presence of approaching fish and to see how well the stun effect holds up. In a short while one of the arm length shrimp-like fish (or the same one from before) makes a play for the bait.

The results? A conclusive trigger of the spell and its stun effect! While momentum carries the fish horizontal 'forward' after the tag, it is definitely not propelling itself on its own power. The bait is certainly torn again- and because of this unlikely to hold onto the magic imbuement- but it worked!

Except in this strange world where water 'depth' is up, the fish isn't exactly sinking downward into reach.

"I am not certain this is the correct method of fishing, yet it is effective."

So is throwing dynamite into lakes, Elidibus. But that's beside the point.

It's a fair assessment (more so the one Elidibus considers personally), but as an immediate reply, Tidus laughs - light, humoured, asking back, "You're interested in magic, aren'tcha?"

A fair assessment of Tidus's own, but this guy clearly had some good control of magic himself, so that made sense there. Tidus didn't exactly mind the question (it's safe, asking what he can do - so long as he doesn't ask how, and expects some kind of deep and well thought out response).

Still, Tidus was going to answer him, until the results of their joined antics (experimenting, but also, totally antics) reveals itself, first with a "wahey!" from Tidus, already celebrating but pumping up a fist!

... until the paralysed fist starts floating upwards EXCUSE YOU.

"Hey, wrong way, wrong way!"

There are perhaps smarter means to deal with this, but Tidus, in his quick thinking, goes for what he knows best: jumping up, and starting to kick into a furious paddling form of swimming up into the air.

very...very slowly!

"I'll...get it!!"

Don't worry, Elidibus pal!!
wewillwewill: (ard-sidelong)

[personal profile] wewillwewill 2021-06-21 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am interested in your ability." Magic just happens to be something he's good at, don't worry about it Tidus! "Few in the modern era of my world practice the principle of imbuing a blade with spells." Certainly there are the red mages who will enchant their rapiers but most essentially manipulate and channel aether.

Which may be likened to splitting hairs but it's different to Elidibus's perspective!

How much of the Ascian's answer was heard may be up for debate as Tidus eagerly kicks off to 'swim' after the stunned fish. Elidibus remains still, gaze following the phenomenal effort (relatively speaking) into making headway through the thin water.

Eventually Tidus will successfully reach the fish and be able to nab it, though whether this is before it hits the border between layers of predatory sea-life or not remains to be seen. There are larger shadows up there.

There's always a bigger fish.

Below on the 'ground', Elidibus is watching. He also politely reels the bait in, especially if it is still carrying a stun enchantment, and will be safely dispelled. It would be a shame after all that effort Tidus is putting in, that the lad ended up stunning himself by coming into contact with the bait.

You'll be amazed at where stubbornness of the useless variety can get you, Elidibus.

Because for the struggle this swimming in, Tidus reaches his target, the passing by shadows of the higher above fish getting about as ignored as they have been so far; their presence known, but they've been swimming by all this time, so whatever, right??

He reaches out for the catch, surprisingly still frozen in place, and Tidus twists to wave the fish at his buddy ol' partner in food, about to celebrate--

until said fish finally comes out of its stun, squirming and surprising Tidus, who lets it go and then is instantly waving his hands to catch it again. But alas, it's already off, and from behind Tidus comes a fish, large and wide....

and smacks him in the back of the head with a fin obliviously, sending him waving his arms and he drifts downwards.

This was perhaps a failed result of this experiment.

Stubbornness of the useless variety? Isn't that a trait every Warrior of Light ever has had?

Oh... oh wait. Ahem.

Well in any case, Elidibus did expect the young man to reach the goal though he might be mildly impressed that it was before the stun wore off. The mid-air-water victory dance is regarded fairly calmly. Tidus's partner seems pretty unflappable, right? Maybe even a bit of a stick in the mu--

There is the noise in the wake of Tidus getting fish-slapped. It sounds like someone who hasn't laughed at a funny moment in literal millennia started to, got surprised by their own sound mid-laugh, then stood there stunned with their hand over their mouth, trying to figure out what the hell just happened.

Who could that possibly be?

Elidibus drops his hand (for absolutely unrelated reasons surely!) and pushes off the ground. Yes, he is cheating as his controlled ascent is not from attempting to swim but a simple manipulation of his body in an upward direction. But this allows him to reach out and grab for one of Tidus's limbs in an effort to stabilize the flailing young man.

Granted, given said youth's ability at blitzball he could probably have righted himself. But that whack on the back of the head could have- forgive the phrase- knocked him for a loop.

The least Elidibus can do for his partner in fishing is make sure Tidus makes it to the ground in a general 'on his feet' position.

"Are you alright?"

Have you ever feeeelt...like an astronaut floating out in space...

Which if Tidus hadn't been dazed from the initial knock, slow as he is to go rolling back in the watery air (and with enough sense to be making yelping noises), he would know exactly the feeling of in his...fall? Sure, fall. Fortunately, he has kind company - the laugh at his expense unbeknownst - in his fishing partner coming to bring his senses back with the tug to his arm to straighten his thoughts.

Look, sometimes, even when you're amazing at blitzball, you don't expect a fish to literally thwap you on the back of the head.

But he seems to reorientate some, a little slow to answer Elidibus, but- "Huh..? Oh, yeah- m'fine." He looks around, crease to his brow. ...definitely looking for that fish like he wants some childish revenge, but he can't even tell one fish from another, here. PAH.

"No problem!" Now he's more focused on the present, or the immediate, feet back on the ground, a small shuffle to straighten himself. "I've taken worse knocks than that! But, uh, I think we're gonna need a net or somethin'. I'm no slump at swimming, but this water doesn't wanna cooperate!"

Water. Air. Whatever the heck this place is.

Hey Major Tom. You're two series entries away and short a female Sorceress for an Eyes On Me moment.

Elidibus is going to disavow all knowledge of any laugh happening in the vicinity of his person in the last ten minutes or so. Fortunately Tidus doesn't appear to have been in a state to have noticed it. Right? But yes he at least feels enough obligation to aid a somewhat addled fishing companion.

The man actually keeps contact long enough to bring Tidus into a roughly upright position in relation to the ground before they make it back. Wouldn't want the guy to land on his head while recovering. As for the fish? There's probably two or three contenders. Elidibus might even be able to point out the correct one.

But wisely he seeks instead allow the subject to shift. "Regrettable I brought no such item with me. Mayhap one would be available at the temple or on the train to borrow. Else we may turn our attention to other matters."
blitzcheer: (very gud thinker)

But he wanted to relax by fiiishiiiing.

Granted, relaxing hasn't been the keyword in this idea so far, and if fish are going to be floating upwards when they're immobile, Tidus is going to need something more handy than just a way to knock them out. He's trying to really thinking though, a useless endeavour as he looks around, as if an idea or some sort will pop out from his head.

Alas, he has nothing. He clicks his tongue.

"Damn. Hmm... okay, I think I know someone who can weave us up a net!" And he might ask now, but first Tidus turns to Elidibus, rubbing the back of his head. "Uh, so much for fishing. You still wanna hang around and see if I can get one made now? We did come here for training..."

And the guy might be more interested in that than this.

Elidibus did just suggest they may continue to try. Tidus is subjected to a thoughtful regard as if his companion is weighing the value of the two options. Finally he responds.

"I said if a net is not readily available, we may pursue other matters. They need not necessarily be for the purpose of training." And truthfully what is offered here is below a level Elidibus himself would benefit from. Having confirmed that already, he sees no reason not to spend the remaining time either aiding others or indulging in some passing curiosities.

"A net would prove more efficient in gathering extra supplies for the train's stores. I would advise you take advantage of the training provided by the temple. Yet it would be foolish to do so without rest." Particularly tasks which are mentally taxing.

"What is it you would prefer to do at this time?"
