"No, I got that part." Being nowhere, no system number. He shakes his head, keeping his chin tilted down. "The train knew this place wasn't registered. It didn't have a single mission for us apart from one: save people. They're in danger."
He can feel the vestiges of his control slowly come apart at the seams. He loves to play pretend, enjoys the thrill of working undercover as much as the next politician-turned-hero. But days upon days of this, of having no clues and little to work with, can grind the calmest man's gears.
"We talked about this before. Do you remember?" He almost sighs into the nutritea he brings up his lips, liquid barely touching his tongue. It's there to distract and supplement running thoughts more than sustenance or taste.
"It felt like we were always being led into a trap. All the illusions, the weird signs that appear mid-mission. You said it yourself. Sometimes you'd come to a planet in distress and arrive with things perfectly normal." Roland looks at her, follows her shadow. "Just that this time, it finally happened. We fell in. But nevermind the how or the why. Would you have any idea who could be doing this? Any lead at all?"
He has half a mind to ask about the straggler she managed to get, someone who knew a bit more than Anan did, but despite his eagerness, Roland is patient. One thing at a time.
