"I'm more worried about the kids. I'd rather 'em not get people comin' after 'em for no reason." But he does appreciate the sentiment. After years of having to depend on himself to drag his own hide broken and bleeding out of a fight, having someone say they'd get his back means a lot more than he's up for talking about usually.

"Maybe the magic experts can figure out why. If I go in peaceable with someone I could at least look like I wasn't out of my mind." Him pointedly attacking a more 'normal' person (not normal to them, of course) might at least lead to a better first impression.
