Growing up was simply adjusting that to understand context better, and more actively choose what he felt was ridiculous and back what he felt had meaning. He was, perhaps, the loudest of his generation, but one couldn't fault him for his training, technique, or loyalty. He also knew how to hold back, and not to rush in alone most times. Not that it kept him out of trouble. That was something entirely different, also a certain amount of terrible luck. Alas.

"But we learn, don't we? Until something kills us I guess, since no one really learns at that point, unless they end up here and then that's a whole other mess."

He meant the train, even if they were presently sitting on a foreign world, as the outsiders brought in to do... what? Step into other people's business, and if they were lucky, be part of their solutions.
