Hn. Judging from the sounds coming from beside him, Rezo definitely shouldn’t have wondered about it out loud.
“I see. Ah, I realize how abrupt that must have sounded,” he tries to explain, “I was simply thinking that you had a caretaking disposition.”
And now he’s wondering if there is or was a life partner to help care for the young Vales- but this time he manages not to ask about it, which will hopefully keep Lioriley from asking him, just as she has turned this one back on Rezo.
There’s a long pause as Rezo considers how to answer her.
“I used to,” Rezo says, slowly. “I had a son, but he passed away. But please do not be saddened; it has been about sixty years since then, which is a long time for humans.”
And he tries not to think about things that are long past the point of him being able to do anything about them. Which, admittedly, has grown into a very large amount over the course of his life.
And oh yes- he also has a great-grandson, who he raised personally, and who now loathes him. He dearly hopes that Lioriley never asks about who Zelgadis is, or why he has the same family name on the passenger roster that Rezo does.
