redprayer: (feeling like a fool again)

Rezo sympathizes with that sigh.

He suspects he’s already disappointed her. But a small disappointment now is surely better than a larger one later on, and he hopes that his warning has forestalled such an event; even if she only seems partly dissuaded.

It’s not purely the remains of his conscience that make him reluctant to accept her promise either. If he did allow himself to take her word, and later called upon her for aid, only for her to refuse, it would hurt and enrage him beyond reason. He does not want to put himself in that position. And no matter how rational or heartfelt her reasons, he would likely bear a grudge.

He’ll just have to forget about it, and hope she’s fickle enough to do the same.

Trying to mollify her he says, “You have a generous nature.” Lightly, he adds, “You’ll make me worry about you, you know.”
