Jema'grethy: Memory Cave

Passengers see a vision, an instance of someone's life, before just as suddenly - they find themselves inside a cave. It is light, a strange moss glowing on the walls and ceiling illuminates the cave nicely, and it is large enough for them to pace around in without trouble.

They're not alone. In the cave with them is another voidtrecker; maybe someone they know well, or maybe someone they've only seen in the aisles of the train. But they are together in this cave, and they will come to find out that it was one of their memories that the other witnessed. And them, one of yours.

The cave has no exit, at least not yet. They know that it will, eventually. When the time is right.

But for that time to come, they first must talk...

[So they were Ryo's memories.

Ryou would ask more, but the topic turns to what Ryo saw and at first it's not so bad; by the sounds of it, it's the little diorama he made to show his friends.

Then Ryo asks who Aigami is and Ryou pales, remembering all too well what he wanted.]

He...I didn't really know him that well. He blamed me for something that happened years ago, that I didn't do, but he thought it was me.

[A pause. There aren't that many memories he has involving Aigami, just short interactions and the confrontation but...]

Why do you ask?

He said he wanted revenge on you.

[It's quiet, and gentle as he can make it, but he's pretty sure this is still going to be painful for Ryou.]

Someone else showed up, and they brought a cursed ring, and...

[He trails off, shaking his head.]

It cut out very suddenly.

[There are shades of are you okay there, just below the surface, but it remains unasked for now.]

[Oh. The confrontation. He's going to have to explain what they were blaming him for, isn't he? It's not something he wants to go in depth on, but Ryo saw what happened already.]

...I used to own the ring. It was haunted, and the spirit attached to it would possess me. They were blaming me for something the spirit did when possessing me. [In other words, not his fault, but the fault of the ring spirit.

As for what happened after it probably cut...]

I don't know what happened to me at the end. That's when the train took me, so I don't know if I'm even still alive there or not. [The uncertainty is what scares him. Can he even go home after the train is done with him?

Notably, he doesn't say if he's okay or not.]

[A chill runs down Ryo's spine as Ryou explains, and he can't keep the horror out of his expression. The cursed ring was haunted. The spirit possessed him. There is some horrifyingly evil magic in Ryo's world if that's something that can just happen to a person.]

[(Someone had tried something like that in Ryo's world. She'd succeeded; as the story went, that success had only lasted for so long, as the Observer themselves had showed up to put a stop to that magic and an end to her. Supposedly, the knowledge on how to create possession curses is still locked in a vault somewhere. Supposedly, nobody who goes looking for it ever comes back.)]

[(The gods of Ryo's world are very serious about this sort of thing, and very thorough.)]

I'm sorry.

[That he's unmoored. That his fate is uncertain. That he'd been cursed at all.]

It's...it's fine now. I don't have the Millennium Ring anymore, so I can't be possessed again. [Possession, at least, isn't something to worry about anymore.]

[The main problem now is if he can go home or not, and why Mani had the Ring.]

I don't know why he got the Ring, it was supposed to be left buried in Egypt with the other Millennium Items! [It wasn't supposed to be unearthed.]
