"Their predecessor. So you're talking about about how you're going to one day hand off your own sutra," the young Kouryuu seemed a little flustered with this. His eyebrows knitting as he looked down at his ankle. It seemed the child was thinking pretty hard about something.
Thankfully it was Koumyou who completed the child's train of thought. "I'm sure you've heard rumors through the grapevines for some time now Kouryuu. How there was possibility for you."
With that Kouryuu looked up, seemingly affronted. "But master-- I'm not even a converted Buddhist. I only grew up here because you were the one who took me in. I simply thought today was going to be about getting my homyo. So why are you now talking to me about an eventual title I don't even think I'm qualified for?"
The real Genjo Sanzo, the one in the present, only seemed to tense with that, his fists unintentionally grabbing into the sleeves of his sweatshirt as he crossed his arms. It felt strange, watching something so very intimate without doing anything to distract from it. This was a private part of himself. Something raw that he always held dear to his heart.
"I was initially called in to be given my official title within the monastery. I was so excited at first, thinking I would be losing my childhood name and given a title that would have garnered some respect among my piers."
