To Climb
Preparation
Just after light on the seventh day since boarding the train everyone’s SCA glows with the colours of the void before showing a message. A briefing for the mission to come. No one gets much time to process this before there is a shaking, like turbulance before there’s a jolt and flash of colour.
”Welcome to Hub World#5739. Our next stop will be Ciyesia in a few hours.”
Outside the windows the void is gone. The train is winding through a mountain range. The mountains tower up around them. The sky is a beautiful blue though every now and again there is a swirl of colour, like the void is trying to break through.
The countryside wizzes by, sometimes you go past settlements, small villages of wooden houses. Sometimes you pass farmers in fields. Sometimes herds of animals, horses, camels, strange animals with six legs and curled horns.
Eventually the train slows. ”Now arriving at Ciyesia. Passengers must wear their Safety Control Apparatus. Please ensure you take all equipment needed for your mission with you when you leave the train and take extra care when you step from the train to the platform. Next stop Ciyesia.”
Arrival
And in a billow of steam the train comes to a stop. The doors hiss open and there is indeed a rickety wooden platform, fallen into disuse. Sat upon it were two children, a boy and a girl who were staring at the train with open mouths.
Before the doors were even fully opened they were off running, “Ma! Ma!”
The platform is in a clearing, surrounded mostly by trees but down the path the children took a building can be seen. If you follow the children you will find it a large homestead, with a sign outside. The Weary Wanderer. The children are on the doorstep talking to a woman and gesturing towards you.
As you approach she smiles, a little nervously. “Well. This is not something I thought I would see in my lifetime. Welcome Treckers, I offer you the hospitality of my inn.”
She gestures them in. Inside is a large common room with wooden tables. There is a fire place but the day is warm enough that it is not lit. At first glance it looks old fashioned to anyone from a modern world, even fantasy-esque for those who would recognise it as such. Indeed her and the children are dressed in simple layered, loose tunics. But then you may notice some of the candles are battery powered and! there’s a coffee machine on the bar.
“Maia can you ask our guests what they would like to drink?” The woman hands the little girl a slate and chalk before she begins rummaging around on the bar for mugs and glasses. “I’m sorry, it’s the quiet season so we aren’t quite guest-ready.”
They become guest ready in an impressive amount of time. The little boy runs off and returns a short while later with a plate of oat biscuits that he begins handing out.
Sheltered and soon to be fed it is time to learn more about this land and plan for your journeys ahead.

"So in your world, it's very common place for children to fight these 'dark' pokemon?" He asks, genuinely wanting to know. It would make sense then if everyone had to fight off these weird creatures all the time that maybe the kids did know their limits pretty well. He just came from a world, or a culture, that didn't.
"I agree with you on that part. I do think she's capable to an extent and she needs to be given opportunity to test her limits. That's why I am willing to accept the agreement that Dread and Sarai will go with her or some other adult accompany her. It's to gaurantee she has a safety net. A world that we're warned have dangerous unfamiliar animals and a trek up a mountain doesn't sound like the best time to let her fly solo, if you get what I mean. Perhaps on this, we can agree? I'll lighten up and you all keep an eye out for her?"

Then she pauses, mulling over the first question with a thoughtful look. "Darks are a type of pokemon- long maligned and cast as evil when they're not and I'm not the person to go into that topic with. Saeko-san is if she ever shows up. She's a dark-type trainer. What you mean would be wild pokemon, who can spit fire or shoot beams of ice at you just as much as help you out with something. Monkey's throwing fruit is baby play tame compared to what could have happened. that's not even taking into account what many ghosts-types can do. If there was another trainer here, I'd give you a demo as to what I mean. but there' not."
She knows she babbled, but at the same time, he needs to correct the mistake. "Trained pokemon like Princess fight, both wild and other trained pokemon. Pokemon enjoy it and if they didn't want to, we'd know. Do you really think you or I could stand up to a pokemon? No. Even a baby pippi would kill us if they wanted to. But, legends and history say pokemon will, by and large, help humanity for their own reasons."

He wasn't sure exactly where the conversation moved from focused on Buttercup to talking about the billions of pokemon she kept talking about. He's pretty sure if he was from her world, he'd have a never ending headache. "Alright.. so pokemon are powerful even when they look like a rabbit and a bat got frisky. Got it. Now tell me something about you that has nothing to do with them." He was curious if she could even do that.

She smirks, arms crossed. Oh, it's on. "I once ate three whole ghost peppers one as a challenge, and spent the rest of the day trying not to murder Satoru for it. Imagine the sun, in your mouth. That's how hot it was. I've also travelled the world and I once climbed a mountain because I could. It was awesome, but also stupidly could, but I'd do it again. I'm also proficient enough in survival skills to survive at least two weeks in the wild without my team. Also I have pretty awesome bike skills." She's more than pleased by that last one.
"Now your turn, only not pokemon, but with things so central to your world and way of life that you can't fathom life without them."
no subject
"So in my case, it'd be.. probably the Avengers." He considers a moment what else is there about him. "I own ele- no twelve one of a kind cars that cost at least a quarter million each. Um... my wife's a CEO so I get to stay home with our daughter. I got really addicted to Candy Crush when it came out."
no subject
Things Eva has no trouble doing: Ragging on her boyfriend/rival when he's not here. But she'd do it if he was here too, so there's that.
She cocks her head at the amount of money, more than a little confused if only because that's the price of a middling gaming computer or like the cost of an average beldum from a backyard breeder. "That's... Is that a lot of money for you? If it is, that's really impressive, as is being a stay at home dad, though I can't say I've heard of Cany Crush. What's that?"
no subject
Some of the warmth left his face, replaced by a mild irritation. "What kind of currency do you have in your world? Do you have cars?" Of course it was impressive! But he was more than just money, at least the last ten years of his life. He also stayed home because of his PTSD that still haunted him from nearly dying in space. "It's a video game. You have those don't you?"
no subject
"We use yen-" On the Yamatai continent at least. "-and of course we have video games and cars. They're mostly for long distances or for transporting goods but you see them in the big cities like Kogane or Yamabuki all the time. Outside that is rare." She huffs before shaking her head. "We might have Candy Crush though, but I wouldn't know."
no subject
"Lucky guy," was all Tony remarks to her sharing that name. However the remark that 'of course' she had things like cars and video games. "There are those on this train who don't. You can't assume these things around here. Yen is used in Japan in our world. So, a quarter of a million dollar is roughly 26 million yen, give or take some due to exchange rates."
He wasn't going to admit how stupid Candy Crush was after he just admitted he'd gotten addicted to it. "Sure there aren't pokemon you can ride?" He teases.
LATEEEE ;_;
Anyway, she was gonna say a bunch of there things but then he tells her how much-
Eva does a dry spit-take as she stares at him, wide-eyed. "That's more than I paid, total, for the Battle Tree. Your wife must make a fortune-"
no subject
All humor drop from his expression at that remark. How dare..
"No- well, yes she makes a lot- but I owned all of that long before I married." Maybe enough about that before he gets more annoyed with her. "I'm going to do a nose count of everyone to make sure we don't have anyone lost. Let me know if you need any help with Princess."
He was sure she didn't, but it was something polite to say.
Late as hell. feel free to ignore.
That said, Eva winces and holds up her hands. She could let this go, she really could. Yet at the same time, he's an Easterner. "Sorry- Yamatai culture, in general, assume the wife makes the income. Yet, you're an Easterner... I didn't mean to offend."
