Mission Five: Conclusion

The Voidtreckers turn the tide, save the day. That isn't to say it is easy or straightforward, the battles are tough but together Red Team prevents the mega weapon getting through, orange team maintain shields, blue team fend off those trying to attack the command centre and purple fight the battle of their lives.

The system is safe and everyone who hasn't already evacuated back to the train using their SCA can gather on the space station again. There is a roar of noise as the Void Trecker Express appears in the hanger once more, noise and wind rushing through their hair it is no mystery why the army here reacted in shock at their initial arrival.

Hitrinto is there, as are many of those the void treckers have met in their week in this system. Here to thank them for their timely rescue and to wave them off.

The voidtreckers as well are reunited, the four teams back as one and it is time to re-board the Voidtrecker Express and move on to the next adventure!

Well, that's just about the worst possible question to ask to Madoka right now. Mostly because she'd hate to lie, but in this case she also would most definitely hate to tell Reigen the truth.. She doesn't want him to feel bad or worry just because she's feeling bad.

Which means she's just going to completely dodge the question. Can't lie if you don't answer!

"Um.. I.. I should be asking you that, Reigen-san." She tries to smile, but fails before even managing to fully form one. "You must've worked so hard."

His expression near immediately perks up to a more genuine smile seeing that Madoka is completely unharmed. Thank goodness! She's ok! Reigen was worried for nothing! (As far as he knows.)

"Me? I'm fine, there's no kind of chaos I can't handle, Madoka-chan!" At least, that's what he says. "What about on your end? I'm sure you did fine!" He can tell Madoka is struggling with something, but she might just be worn out? It's ok.

"W-Well.. I tried my best."

At least that's the truth. She's done more during this mission than during the previous ones, although she's still not too sure of her usefulness in the greater scheme of things.. But she definitely did her best back there. Nothing about that is the cause of why exactly she isn't feeling great.

For a moment she contemplates just not telling him what's wrong. But she's pretty sure that once they're fully back on the train it's going to be really hard for Reigen not to notice certain people missing, so maybe it's just better to confess to that now.

"But.." She sucks in a deep breath, determined to not look as sad as she's feeling right now as she says it. Madoka manages to put up something actually relatively neutral for the moment. "I don't know if you've noticed yet, but papa's missing."

"...Ignis-kun went missing?" Oh. Now everything is starting to click together. How did he manage to go missing? What if he'd gotten lost in space or worse, a ship exploded and--no, Reigen has to stomp out that train of thought. Madoka needs someone to stay calm right now.

"...it's ok. It's not your fault, Madoka-chan. Ignis-kun is...he can take care of himself. He'll definitely be back." Reigen nods, as if to confirm that to himself as well. "Besides, Eva-san disappeared mid-mission once, and she just appeared back on the train...that's probably what happened. It'll be alright!" He gives a reassuring smile, hoping that sells his confidence. It's also half to convince himself, since putting that kind of logic together out loud gives him confidence that Ignis will come back as well.

Reigen really is amazing, Madoka can't help but think. His ability to be positive no matter the situation is just so incredible to her - mostly since she often can't perceive his own worries beyond it, she just takes it at face value.

But that also means she doesn't want to bring down his mood or positivity. So even though it feels like something is squeezing her heart tightly in her chest, she smiles up at Reigen.

.. it's not a very good attempt at a smile. Something about it looks kind of miserable, no matter how hard Madoka tries.

"You're right, Reigen-san.. Of course, you always are." At least she means that much. "There's no way papa would suddenly leave everyone behind like this, he's too responsible for it.. So he'll be back, yes."

And yet Madoka doesn't sound convinced. But she's hoping for it - she's hoping so hard right now. She doesn't know what she'll do otherwise.

"See, you know Ignis-kun! He probably just got caught up taking care of something, he'll be ok!" Reigen gives Madoka a small hair ruffle, hoping that his words help out a little.

"Come on, we should start heading back, right?" He looks around for the other kids, figuring they're probably tired...where is everyone, anyway?

Madoka can't help but feel more awkward the longer she watches Reigen look around like that. There's such obvious gaps in their usual group of Voidtreckers that it feels like an inevitably that Reigen will notice just how many people suddenly disappeared.

It's probably silly to want to protect him from having to realise that for a few moments longer. Reigen is an adult, and a very competent one at that. But.. still. She doesn't want him to have to feel bad...

So Madoka sucks in a deep breath, and then suddenly quickly moves so she's right in front of Reigen, trying to pull his attention to her instead.

"U.. Um..!"

Oh god, she sucks at improvising on the spot. Her face starts to grow red.

"R.. Reigen-san, that's right! We should head back! I.. um, I have to show you something.. on the train! Hmm!"

Reigen looks back at Madoka with some confusion at how flustered she is.

"Really? What is it?"

It might be a little mean to put Madoka on the spot like that, but...well, it's pretty obvious she's still hiding something. Reigen can catch lies even when they're not blatant. However, he also doesn't want to put too much stress on Madoka after such a long week, so he'll still go along with her.

"You're right, though, we probably should head back. You can tell me what's on there when we get there."

No matter how obvious her attempt is to cover things up, Reigen's specific reaction makes her feel like she's somehow pulling it off anyway. Madoka has no idea that he's totally caught onto it in his thoughts, so she - nervously - tries to smile a little at him.

"O-Okay.."

At least that gives her a few more moments to think about how to deal with this situation she's put herself in. She starts walking towards the train, thinking.. but then she feels something in her hand, and it sets off a wave of relief in her head. Phew, a good excuse!

Once they're near the train Madoka opens her hand to him as she walks, shoving off the black orb she's holding in it.

"It's this.. Mister Fëanor made them. Have you seen them yet, Reigen-san? I think your team should have one too.." She's just not sure who Fëanor gave the palantír to.
