Mission Five: Conclusion

The Voidtreckers turn the tide, save the day. That isn't to say it is easy or straightforward, the battles are tough but together Red Team prevents the mega weapon getting through, orange team maintain shields, blue team fend off those trying to attack the command centre and purple fight the battle of their lives.

The system is safe and everyone who hasn't already evacuated back to the train using their SCA can gather on the space station again. There is a roar of noise as the Void Trecker Express appears in the hanger once more, noise and wind rushing through their hair it is no mystery why the army here reacted in shock at their initial arrival.

Hitrinto is there, as are many of those the void treckers have met in their week in this system. Here to thank them for their timely rescue and to wave them off.

The voidtreckers as well are reunited, the four teams back as one and it is time to re-board the Voidtrecker Express and move on to the next adventure!

She nods slightly. It's not a problem Alice herself has, considering she's had to fight for her own survival constantly for a while already now. But she's at least not completely disconnected from the regular world enough to understand most regular people would have that problem.

"Then why not try to learn some skill you think might suit you? It doesn't seem like much is going to change for us soon, after all." They'll just be dumped straight into another mission somewhere along the line. "And it's also not as if there's much else to do on this train other than sitting around."

"I want to," he said. "I'm just...not sure how to go about it here. Like, back home I'd look up things on the internet, but." But he didn't think that was going to work here. "I'm not sure who to ask." Maybe he should ask on the network or something? He'd poked around it a little in the past, but he hadn't interacted with it otherwise. maybe there were people here who could help. Bucky'd offered to teach him how to cook some things, maybe someone else would know medical skills or how to fight.

"I'm sure that if you asked over these.." Her voice trails off. The network here is far from something familiar to Alice, so she isn't even good enough with it yet to know how to comfortably refer to it. Instead she just vaguely waves a hand in the direction of the most nearby terminal. ".. These things, then you'd find people lining up to help you, from what I have seen."

You can say a lot about the people aboard this train - and oh, how Alice would! - but they seem very strangely and eagerly helpful for some reason.

"I do know how to fight myself, but I'm not much of a teacher." That's a wild understatement. And she's very aware of it.

He glanced over in the direction of the terminal, considering that. He hadn't used them much because...well, they were a lot clunkier than what he was used to, honestly. But using one of them to ask for help was a good idea.

"I don't know why I didn't think of that myself. You really think there'd be a lot of people who'd want to help?" He didn't want to bother anybody or come across as needy or something. Or worse, useless.

Alice's expression looks a little like she's tasting something sour.

"Oh, I don't doubt it. When I first arrived here, people were practically tripping over their own feet in their eagerness to explain things to me." Maybe it's a slight exaggeration, but compared to the way Alice is used to being treated back home, it really did feel like that.

"People here are so strangely helpful. I don't get it."

"People being helpful is...good though, right?" He guessed that, in some situations, people could be too helpful, when it would become annoying, but. He'd never been in a situation like that before.

"Unless you're not used to that, I guess."

"It's not exactly common where I'm from." Her head dips into a slight nod. Apparently she's leaving that first question unanswered. Mostly since she thinks it's kind of a good thing, but it's.. Complicated with a capital C, honestly.

"Back in London people would trample all over each other in order to get even the slightest benefit for themselves. The poor to survive, the rich to get even more rich." Granted, it's not like there's a real class system on the train when they don't even have money (do the points count?), but still.

There's a small hesitant pause before she does decide to add, "It leaves me unsure of how to deal with these different attitudes here."

[personal profile] swansongs 2020-04-18 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't have any idea where London was, but- "Oh...yeah. People can be really selfish, or rude." Or whatever they had to do to survive. In some cases, he couldn't blame them, but in others... there was almost no excuse for being an asshole to someone.

"I'm from a big city. I've seen just as many people be assholes to others as I have people who're genuinely nice. The number of people here who're nice compared to not nice is...a lot different, but it's nice." He paused for a moment, trying to figure out his next words. "Either way, I can understand not being used to people...being like they are, here. Some things take time to adjust to."
irrationally: (we ripped it in two)

[personal profile] irrationally 2020-04-19 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
The last thing he says makes her go quiet for a moment. It's true that adjusting takes time, but.. on the other hand, Alice isn't quite sure if she'll ever get used to this. Maybe that thought too is something that will change with time, but for now it feels impossible even in the future.

It's far from her to want to talk about her own feelings though. After the quiet pause, she turns her gaze back to him.

"Would you say you're used to it already?"

[personal profile] swansongs 2020-04-20 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmm. That was a good question. "Yes and no? Like, I'm used to people being nice, but...sometimes it's weird. I don't want to be a bother to anyone, and what if they're only being nice for the sake of being nice, you know? Because they're too nice to say no. And I guess sometimes it feels too good to be true, like there has to be some kind of catch."
irrationally: (i don't even have a song)

[personal profile] irrationally 2020-04-20 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That first part is rather difficult to understand for her on a personal level, but that last part at least gets a small noise of agreement from her.

"You tell me. I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop." Sure, some aspects of this place still suck, but on a whole everything here is so much better than her own situation back home that it really feels like there's some catch out there, just waiting to spring itself onto her. "If there truly is some catch though, then there really are a lot of people playing the long game in this place."

Since there's - oddly enough - been people who have been that consistently nice all this time.

[personal profile] swansongs 2020-04-21 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm. I guess...that means there are a lot of genuinely nice people here." The alternative was that they were surrounded by horrible people, but considering that this place was supposedly picking them to 'help' people, picking horrible people didn't make much sense. Sure, someone awful might slip in now and then, but he couldn't imagine that being the majority.

"Perhaps the train prefers to draw in those sorts of people."

Even though she is pretty sure most of the things the train is doing are actually not logical at all. But who knows at this point. What other explanation is there for such a high number of genuinely nice people when she has never met one before in her life until she showed up here?

"And sometimes it just makes the odd mistake." Alice would consider herself to be far from a nice person, after all.

[personal profile] swansongs 2020-04-22 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe," he agreed. "Nobody and nothing is perfect, after all. Mistakes happen." And the train seemed to make a lot of them, in Dyme's opinion. Sure, they weren't treated poorly, but no one had agreed to be there, and no one had actually signed up for any missions or whatever else the train threw at them.
